For the first time, an unmasked Maruti Jimny 5-Door has been spotted on Indian roads. The automaker appears to be filming a TV commercial for the forthcoming SUV.
One of the photographs shows another car covered while this one in the trademark colours draws attention. The Jimny badging on the tailgate confirms the ultimate production name of the automobile. It might not be called the Gypsy as rumoured before.
From this position, the car looks exactly like the contemporary 3-door Jimny up to the B-pillar. There is another door and a thin quarter-glass panel. But the rear door proportion looks a little off in these photos.
The back profile is identical, with a spare wheel mounted on the tailgate and covered in black. The tailgate’s black hinges are unsightly while the back windscreen appears small too.
Another disappointment is the tyre size; look at the width! In photographs, it appears quite thin. This test mule gets Bridgestone tyres that are expected to make it to production.
The 5-door Jimny will make its global debut in January at the 2023 Auto Expo. It will be powered by a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated K15B gasoline engine with mild hybrid technology.
With the Jimny, Maruti will offer a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic transmission. It will also feature Suzuki AllGrip 4×4 technology and a low-ratio gearbox.
