Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS has been officially launched in India for INR 8,69,000 (ex-showroom Delhi). The car comes out as the most powerful hatchback in the company lineup, carrying a turbocharged three-cylinder engine. The 1.0 liter, Boosterjet motor is good for 102 HP and 150 Nm of torque. Internationally, the same engine produces more power but has been detuned due to Indian conditions and fuel grade availability. It comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox.

Baleno RS is based on the same frame and design as regular variant but carries much sportier character with its Chrome finished front grill, all wheel disc brakes and tweaked bumpers. The smoked headlight on the RS are bi-xenon automatic units while its taillight even feels slightly different from the regular variant. The alloy wheel design stays the same while the shade turns Black on the new car. while the rear view mirrors are electric folding and adjustable.
Smartplay infotainment system on the Baleno RS comes with Navigation while dual airbags as well as ABS stays standard on the new car. The hot hatch design is further enhanced through the placement of silver front and side splitter on the new RS. The car weighs 950 kg, making it 15 kg heavier over the regular Baleno with CVT. After Abarth Punto, it would be the only car in the affordable performance segment to carry 4 wheel disc brakes.
Maruti is retailing the Baleno RS at a premium as it is the most equipped hatchback ever built by them for India. The ample space, catchy design and power packed performance makes Baleno RS an effective option over most Indian cars. It won’t find as many buyers as its standard cousins but would be a good option for those who care for the environment and loves to keeps the performance under check everytime.
