With the Grand Vitara (YFG), the company is looking to expand its presence in the lucrative midsize SUV segment, building on the momentum of the recently launched second-generation Brezza in the compact SUV segment. The Grand Vitara, with its bold SUV design, sophisticated interiors, revolutionary powertrains, and segment-leading features, is all set to make a strong statement, according to the company, leveraging the expertise of Suzuki design and engineering and born from a legacy of legendary SUV capabilities.
The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara is expected to become a truly global product, with exports to Europe and Africa planned. It will replace the current international Grand Vitara, which is due for a generation change. The all-new Grand Vitara, developed in collaboration with Toyota, is essentially the Urban Cruiser Hyryder’s cousin, sharing almost everything with it. Both SUVs are built on Suzuki’s Global-C platform, which also supports the Brezza, Ciaz, S-Cross, and the new international S-Cross.
A 1.5-litre K15C petrol engine with mild hybrid technology and a 1.5-litre TNGA engine with Toyota Hybrid System (THS) and e-drive transmission are available. The TNGA engine has 91 hp and 122 Nm of torque, whereas the motor has 79 hp and 141 Nm of torque. The engine and motor have a combined output of 114 HP. There is an all-electric mode in which the car can only run on electricity. The K series engine produces the same 101 hp and 135 Nm as the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and Brezza and is available with a 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission.
The official name of the company’s upcoming midsize SUV codenamed ‘YFG’ is Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, and bookings for the same are now open at all Nexa dealerships for Rs. 11,000/-. Only Nexa channels will have access to the vehicle. Customers can also book the car online on the official website of the brand. The official unveiling will take place on July 20th, followed by the launch. Deliveries are expected to begin in August or September.
