Maruti Suzuki Swift Sport Spotted Wearing “On Test By ARAI” Sticker

Maruti Suzuki Swift Sport Spotted Wearing “On Test By ARAI” Sticker

Maruti Swift is considered one of the most loved hatchback cars in India for various reasons. The primary reason is the sporty performance at a relatively affordable price. The top-spec Swift Sport is a more powerful version of the compact hatchback and is not yet released in the Indian market. The new-gen model is expected to make its global debut next year, whether it will make it to the Indian market is not known yet.

Although a set of spy images has gone viral recently showing the new Swift Sport, the images were uploaded on an Instagram handle by the name of “Car Crazy India” and they were taken by Yashraj Jadhav. Whether it is a private import or a test mule is not known yet but another set of images from Pune was shared by Sidhant K, where a test mule is seen and it had a sticker saying ‘On Test By ARAI’. Now if these two sets of images are of the same vehicle or not is not known.

The highlighted feature from both the spy images can be concluded to be a blacked-out diffusor on the rear bumper, featuring twin exhaust cans, a shark-fin antenna, a roof-mounted spoiler, a rear wiper and LED tail lamps. It had dual-tone alloy wheels which differ from the international variant and the tyres appear to be thinner than usual. A wider grille with blacked-out mesh internals in the front adds to its sporty look. The front bumper is redesigned and has new fog lamp enclosures with blacked-out bezels.

Constructed on the same HEARTECT platform as its standard versions, the dynamics of the hatch have been tweaked by adapting a very firm suspension setup. The international variant of the Swift Sport is powered by a 1.4L BoosterJet Turbo petrol engine with an integrated 48V hybrid. It generates the output of 129 bhp of max power and 235 Nm of max torque when mated with a 6-speed AT/MT gearbox.

For the Indian variant, Maruti Suzuki might use the 1.0L BoosterJet Turbo petrol engine that was offered in Baleno RS. It could generate a max power of 101 bhp and a max torque of 150 Nm and be mated with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The unit would essentially be the same as the 1.0L K10C DualJet petrol motor currently offered in Celerio and WagonR.

All the spy photos and now the test by ARAI could suggest a potential launch for the Maruti Suzuki Swift Sport in India, but it is highly unlikely that they would bring it through the CBU route. As of now, no specific information is available regarding the launch or the price, but we expect more details in the next few months.
