The recent buzz in the Indian auto industry reveals that Maruti Suzuki is all set to launch the premium version of their third-generation WagonR by Diwali this year. Expected to be christened as Maruti Suzuki XL5, the upcoming product from the brand will take the same route as followed by the recently-launched Maruti Suzuki XL6, the premium version of the Ertiga MPV.
Expected to be made available via the brand’s NEXA showrooms, the XL5 will be debuted to the Indian market in the upcoming festive season in October. The launch of a premium variant of the Maruti WagonR has been specifically implied for boosting sales for the brand.
Taking the same mechanical bits as that of the third-gen WagonR, the front fascia of the upcoming XL5 will get a completely different outlook, setting it apart from the former. The brand will be using a similar Heartect platform for its upcoming hatchback XL5.
One can expect the brand to offer projector headlamps with LED DRLs for the top-spec variant of the XL5. The cabin will further feature a seven-inch SmartPlay touchscreen infotainment system in addition to the steering wheel-mounted controls, reverse parking sensors, and more.
To be sold via Maruti Suzuki’s NEXA dealerships, the XL5 is expected to get a host of premium features as well as design bits to differentiate it from the WagonR. The brand is expected to offer premium colour variants of the Maruti XL5 in the Indian market in addition to offering multiple dual-tone variants.
As per the leaked details, the upcoming XL5 hatchback will be made available in the market in Alpha and Zeta trims while featuring a BS6-compliant K12M petrol engine. The 1.2-litre four-cylinder inline petrol engine will be capable of generating maximum power of 82HP at 6,000 rpm and a peak torque of 113Nm at 4,200 rpm.
The engine will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard though the customers can also avail an optional 5-speed AMT transmission with the XL5. Since the upcoming car will be a premium variant of the already available WagonR, one can expect the brand to price it in a range of INR 5.50-6.50 lakh (ex-showroom).
