2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB (Long Wheelbase) has been officially launched in India for a starting price of INR 56.15 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai). The car has been launched in the long wheelbase version and to the big surprise, it is now just available in the extra long version for India. The starting price tag is for the E200 variant while the more powerful E350d can be had for INR 69.47 lakh. E-Class has been aof luxury since last two decades in India and this tenth generation model takes everything to a new level.
2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB Launched in India @ Rs 56.15 lakh
E-Class LWB is based on the modular MRA platform, underpinning both the C-Class as well as the S-Class. The car is costlier than the earlier generation but brings nothing less than 3079 mm of wheelbase for that special extra space feel in the rear seats. It comes with a total length of 5063 mm, making it 140 mm longer than the non-LWB model. The long wheelbase model with right-hand drive configuration is exclusively sold in India only. Mercedes sells the LWB model in a left-hand configuration in China.
Apart from these two countries, all others have to stay with the other model. Mercedes E-Class E200 is a petrol model that carries a turbocharged 2.0 liter motor producing 184 HP and 300 Nm of torque. If this feels small, the E350d with a massive 3.0 liter V6 diesel motor is good for 258 HP and 620 Nm of torque. Both the engines are mated to 9G-Tronic gearbox and send power to the rear wheels for added fun. Mercedes Benz has focused more on the rear seat occupants on the E-Class LWB.
The rear seats are now more inline with the S-Class seats and carry electrically adjustable backrests for easy reclining. The restraint now carry the soft pillow finish as the S-Class. The center armrest now comes with illuminated storage and USB port for further improvement in accessibility. The car comes with 12.3 inch high resolution screen and a 13-speaker 590W Burmester sound system for the infotainment purposes, further helping the driver control illumination and climate inside the car. Mercedes has kept the twin dial instrument console for the Indian market.
E-Class LWB comes with full LED headlights, adaptive LED taillights, panoramic sunroof, 7 airbags, attention assist and Mercedes Pre Safe system. The interior is finished in wood and leather while passengers can opt from 64 different colors in the ambient lighting option. Mercedes Benz is the number one luxury brand in India, selling 13,558 units in the year 2016 alone. The new variant is expected to drive the sales further by taking better care of the customers through the added luxury in the new E-Class.
