All-New Mercedes A-Class Sport Sedan Officially Unveiled

Mercedes A-Class sedan has been officially revealed at 2018 Beijing Motor Show. Coming with a smart front fascia and typical Mercedes rear end, this compact sedan measures 4549 mm for the international market.

China will get A200L, the long wheelbase version of this model, with 60mm of added legroom and total length of 4609 mm. Rivaling Audi A3 in its segment, Mercedes A-Class sedan is 91mm longer when compared with short wheelbase model. The brand is evaluating possibilities to launch A-Class sedan in India as if this one comes here, the upcoming CLA won’t make it due to similar price point.

Front end of A-Class sedan is highly inspired from fourth generation A-Class while rear seen here is more like much premium CLS. It seems like they will soon have confusing lineup of cars. Apart from upcoming CLA and GLA updates, Mercedes is assumed to be working on a compact SUV named GLB.

Yet, they have not confirmed anything related to this product. Interiors of A-Class sedan are shared with the hatchback while feature list is also expected to stay more or less same. Chinese market will get this sedan with a 1.3L turbocharged petrol engine producing 136 HP in base and 163 HP in top variant.

Later, they will introduce a powerful 2.0L, 190 HP petrol engine. Both will use 7-speed dual clutch transmission as standard. As cramped rear seat of CLA was a drawback for most buyers in India, Mercedes can introduce this A-Class sedan to deal with these issues and offer equally exciting interior feel.

However, the coupe like design of CLA may be missed by certain buyers who simply prefer using front seats while travelling. Those looking for driver specific sedan with loads of features at a lower price point than C-Class will love the introduction of new A-Class sedan (standard length) in India.
