Mercedes-Benz EQC, an all-wheel-drive electric SUV from the German manufacturer, is now official. The US market will receive this 402hp green machine in 2020, warning the electric giant Tesla of its arrival in advance. The car is a production version of two-year-old concept from Paris Motor Show, flaunting 200 miles (321.9 km) of overall range on one full charge. Mercedes EQC was unveiled at an official company event in Sweden, with the company revealing complete plans for its worldwide debut. The production starts in Germany in 2019, further moving to China and the US in a phased manner.
Mercedes EQC can get around 280 miles of range with the NEC testing standards of Europe but, that won’t be practical in comparison to the EPA figures for the US market. They even revealed that fast chargers can help the driver get 70 percent of battery in just 40 minutes. The upcoming all-electric variant comes with two 10.25-inch displays with MBUX infotainment system and impressive user interface. Adaptive headlights, heated seats, 19-inch alloy wheels and one motor on each axle comes as standard. The car is expected to deliver 0-100 kph in just 4.9 seconds.
Mercedes is offering EQC with a top speed of 112 mph (180 kph), lower than generally listed top speeds of over 200 kph for most SUVs. The rivals in this segment include Tesla Model X, Jaguar I-Pace, upcoming Audi E-Tron and BMW iX3. Mercedes is expected to place the electric SUV under $69,500 (INR 49.86 lakh approx, without taxes) worth price tag of the i-Pace. Electric power is the future of the automotive market and most brands have understood this with prototypes ready for testing. Not just the luxury brands but, even Ford, Hyundai and Volkswagen are working hard on it.
