Mercedes Benz India registered sales of 13,231 units in the year 2016 (January to December). Despite of the the problems faced like Delhi diesel ban and demonetization, the sales number was slightly lower than the number recorded previous year (13,502). Mercedes Benz diesel cars are fitted with an engine over 2000cc in most versions and this gave them an eight month halt in the sales in Delhi NCR region.

The growth registered in the SUV sector was 20 percent and Mercedes GLE emerged as the most selling SUV in the year 2016. After moving into the CKD segment, Mercedes GLC and many other products got an effective price cut. This made Mercedes cars more effective in comparison to others in the segment. C-Class remained the highest selling model in the company lineup, winning over E-Class as the top grossing car in 2015.
In comparison to Mercedes Benz, BMW sold 7861 units in the same interval. December 2016 saw a higher sales number when compared to the same month last year. Mercedes Benz is the only luxury brand among all others that brings nearly its entire range into the Indian market. They have been present in every segment, ranging from entry level hatchbacks to fully performance oriented AMG cars in the country.
