MG M9 Electric MPV Exciting Features Revealed in Latest Spy Photos
What we are seeing is that MG Motor is actually testing the MG M9, which is a groundbreaking luxury electric MPV, in India, which is confirming that they are now foraying into the premium EV segment. In the past few months, spy photos and inside information teased smooth styling, hi tech, and sustainability, with the M9 emerging as a possible game changer for families and green consciouss that hope to find that elusive happy medium between style and practicality. From spy-shot leaks to what we expect on its India launch timeline and how it could even change the game in terms of luxury electric mobility, we unpack it all in this article.
This is MG M9 luxury electric MPV which is being spied testing in India and features futuristic design with aerodynamic contours, flush mounted door handles and panoramic glass roof. Rushlane and Spylane spy shots reveal a split headlamp setup and a minimalist rear with a full width LED light bar as per MG’s “emotional dynamism” design philosophy. MG is playing it heavy on the camouflage, but the wheel design is a premium EV concept feel that suggests efficiency and luxury is the order of the day.
In particular, the M9 looks larger than MG’s existing models, suggesting that it will be able to seat three rows. This is in line with the brand’s strategy to provide India with family friendly EVs, as per the growing demand.
This is why MG has decided to test the M9 luxury electric MPV in India, which is a key hub for EV innovation. MG is aiming to capitalize on Indian government pushing for 30% EV adoption by 2030, and to take advantage of the incentives for local manufacturing and charging infrastructure. Testing in monsoon rains and extreme heat in India means the M9’s battery and thermal management systems are robust enough for global markets.
According to sources, the M9 will be launched in India by late 2025, before Europe and Southeast Asia, establishing MG’s intent in the region.
MG M9 occupies a niche, but competitive position, competing with the models Volvo EM90 and Zeekr 009. It is believed early on that the M9 will stretch its battery to a range of between 500 km at 600 km (WLTP) and at least 436km ahead of the Zeekr. Its lacks a third row, but with a dual motors setup outputting ~400 hp it could hardly be considered boring for an MPV.
However, pricing will be the M9’s success. If MG prices it at below ₹60 lakh (ex showroom), it would undercut European rivals but still offer the same luxury.
The M9’s aerodynamics and elegance are emphasized in its design. This will help improve efficiency with a sloping roofline (akin to the continental), with a pair of flush mounted cameras replacing traditional side mirrors. While sealed (a typical feature of EVs), the front grille receives an illuminated MG badge and looks sophisticated.
Wheel designs, as spotted in testing, are turbine style alloys that help improve airflow around the brakes, something that is sometimes overlooked in MPVs.
Leaked pictures show a lounge style cabin, captains seats, dual sunroofs and a 15.6 inch rotating infotainment screen. MG’s partnership with premium audio brands suggests that it will offer a concert hall quality sound system. From a global sustainability perspective, the use of recycled materials helps to attract those buyers who are concerned about the environment.
MG is expected to launch the M9 with the company’s new 120 kWh battery for a 600 km range. The fast charging (10–80% in 18 minutes) takes care of range anxiety, an important factor to consider in India. It will probably pack dual motors that will allow a 0–100 km/h sprint in under 5 seconds, a blend of practicality and thrill.
The M9’s zero emissions powertrain and lower running costs can appeal to eco conscious corporates and families whereas the Toyota Vellfire and Kia Carnival hold sway in India’s luxury MPV market. The challenge, however, is because of charging infrastructure gaps.
The target customers for MG’s M9 are urban elites and tech savvy buyers, who MG hopes will regard the M9 as a ‘green status symbol’. Expectations include limited edition launches and experiential marketing campaigns.
Industry insiders say the car will go on sale in late 2025 starting at ₹55 lakh. To lower upfront costs, MG may provide battery subscription plans.
It’s carbon-neutral promise of manufacturing, seating for seven and well developed driver aids, makes this a guilt free luxury experience. In India’s EV market, there is no other combination of space, tech and sustainability.
