The 2023 MG Gloster has been launched, with minor cosmetic and feature updates to MG India’s flagship SUV. The variant lineup has also been reshuffled, with the Smart trim variant being dropped.
The Gloster’s ADAS package now includes three new features: Door Open Warning, Lane Change Assist, and Rear Cross Traffic Alert. The i-Smart connected car app has also been updated, with 35 new Hinglish voice commands added to the 100 already available.
MG has also updated the MapmyIndia-powered navigation system, which now includes real-time weather and AQI data, and an integrated ‘Discover App’ that allows users to search for hotels and restaurants. It also receives a new Park Plus head unit app, which allows users to reserve and pay for parking spaces ahead of time.
Only 4×4 models of the 2023 Gloster have new 18-inch alloy wheels inspired by British windmill turbines. MG has added a new ‘Deep Golden’ colour option to the existing Metal Black, Metal Ash, and Warm White colour options. The previously available ‘Agate Red’ colour option appears to have been discontinued.
Previously, the lower-spec 163hp 2.0-litre diesel engine was only available in 4×2 form on the Super and Smart trims but now this powertrain is available on three trim levels. The more powerful 218hp, 2.0-litre diesel engine with 4×4 that was previously available only on the Sharp and Savvy trims is now available only on the top-spec Savvy trim.
The MG Gloster’s entry-level Super trim costs Rs 32 lakh, while the top-spec Savvy trim costs Rs 40.78 lakh. The base model is Rs 50,000 more expensive than the previous model, while the top-end model is Rs 1.28 lakh more expensive. The 2023 Gloster comes in three trim levels: Super, Sharp, and Savvy, with MG discontinuing the previous second-from-base Smart trim.
The Toyota Fortuner is the Gloster’s only direct competitor, as both are body-on-frame three-row SUVs. However, it faces competition in terms of price from the Jeep Meridian and Skoda Kodiaq.
