MG Hector Fire Incident Reason Revealed; Official Statement Released

MG Hector Fire Incident Reason Revealed: As we reported earlier, in a shocking incident, an MG Hector owned by a Delhi resident was caught on fire in the middle of the road. All the passengers and the driver present at that time were declared safe.

After issuing an official statement regarding how the brand was not at fault, the owner of the SUV, Mr Bhupender Singh cleared the air and ensured that the SUV could have caught fire due to the accessories he got installed from a third-party vendor.

Now, the British manufacturer has officially released its statement on the matter. The brand after several investigations has concluded that the cause of the fire was a foreign material such as a cleaning cloth left inside the engine area near the high-temperature parts of the exhaust system.

Since the investigation issued by the brand declared all the electrical wiring as well as oil and fuel line of the SUV intact, the cause of the fire was ultimately the foreign material, the debris of which was found in a charred condition by the investigation team.

According to the brand, MG Hector has been developed by surpassing the global safety standards and has been tested on the Indian roads for over 10 lakh kilometres. The company has also gifted the customer a brand new Hector as compensation to his loss. Here is the official statement issued by MG Motor on their behalf concerning the Hector fire incident.

Hector Fire Incident

Four days ago, we were apprised by one of our esteemed customers about the fire in his MG Hector in Delhi. This was unfortunate and the first case of its kind for us. The customer and the driver were completely safe.

We immediately started two sets of investigations. One team comprised of our internal team of expert engineers specially trained on such issues at MG Motor. At the same time, we contacted an independent external agency under the Government to investigate the details and determine the root cause.

Both investigations concluded that the electrical connections as well as oil and fuel line of this car were completely intact. It further reveals the presence of foreign material and its debris in the complete charred condition in the engine bay near very high-temperature zone – exhaust manifold and ABS module line. The debris of the material could be suggestive of the presence of foreign material such as cleaning cloth or something similar which could have been the cause of the fire under contact with high-temperature parts of the exhaust system.

We would like to apprise you that the customer and his family are very satisfied without response and handling of the issue. They are happily driving another Hector. The MG Hector has been tested for over 1 million kilometres in India before its launch and it is built-in line with global standards. Consumer safety is a key priority for us at MG Motor India and a core part of our internal value systems.

We would also like to reiterate our commitment towards complete transparency and providing our customers with a quick response to all their queries and issues.

We are determined to build our brand through the strength and quality of our products and by delivering great customer satisfaction.
