MG Motor will soon be entering in India by unveiling the Hector SUV on May 15, 2019. Though they are a new player for the Indian market, the brand has got a legendary name and is very popular among car fans around the globe. The upcoming SUV will be packed with ample of features like a large 10.4-inch touchscreen, LED headlights, Harman Infinity audio system, and a panoramic sunroof.
The SUV will feature a technology called iSMART NextGen that will aim to redefine connected mobility. It will use a built-in SIM card which uses the internet to keep the car connected. Voice control can also be used to control the car including climate control, electric sunroof, and a lot of other comfort features. We can expect the Hector SUV’s cabin to be the most feature-loaded in comparison to other cars in its class.
The front grille of the Hector SUV houses a large MG logo in the centre. A shiny metal strip surrounds the blacked out grille and extends further, underlining the top mounted DRLs. The lower area of the front bumper and the headlight cluster below gets chrome accents. Black plastic cladding is present all around at the lower parts of the vehicle lending it a rugged look. The roof-rails on its top add on to its sportiness. The alloy wheels of the SUV also gets a unique design with 5 thick spokes and 5 thin spokes.
Mechanically, the MG Hector will be available in India with 2 engine options. Its 2.0-litre diesel engine is the same as that of Jeep Compass which delivers 173 HP of maximum power while the 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine generates 143 HP. Both the engine variants would be mated to a 6-speed manual transmission though, the petrol engine is also expected to get a 6-speed DCT automatic gearbox.
Also, there will be a 48-volt mild-hybrid variant that is said to be 12 per cent more fuel efficient than the petrol version, and the mild-hybrid variant system will also provide up to 20 Nm of additional torque at low speeds to help counter turbo lag and allow improved acceleration in city traffic.
After making the offical debut on 15th May, MG Motor will launch the Hector SUV in India next month. It is expected to start from INR 15 lakh for the base petrol model, and it can go up to INR 22 lakh for the top diesel model. At this price range, it has to compete with many cars like Jeep Compass, Mahindra XUV500, Tata Harrier, and the Hyundai Tucson.
