MG Motors is all set to enter in India with their debut car, the MG Hector SUV. Though we were blessed with certain teaser images of the same few months ago, the first official images of the SUV have surfaced recently. The images of India-spec Hector SUV were made official at an event in Delhi.
It was earlier seen during the filming of a TV commercial with UK’s very own Benedict Cumberbatch taking the front wheel. India’s first connected passenger vehicle is expected to be launched by June 2019 and will get a starting price tag of around INR 15 lakh. The MG Hector SUV is expected to compete in the market with the likes of Hyundai Creta, Jeep Compass and Tata Harrier.
MG Hector will be available in India with two engine specifications. The 2.0-litre diesel engine borrowed from Jeep Compass is capable of churning out a power of 170 HP while the 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol engine will be good for 143 HP. Both the engine variants will be mated to a 6-speed manual transmission though, the petrol engine can also be availed with a six-speed DCT.
Based on the underpinnings of Baojun 530 SUV, the MG Hector SUV’s Indian Spec variant gets a tweaked front grille exhibiting a honeycomb design. It features a larger signature logo “MG” at the centre of the grille while exhibits a chrome trim on the front bumper. The SUV will feature LED headlights and daytime running lights while the shark antenna and the diamond cut alloy wheels compliments its unique styling.
The MG Hector SUV will be available in India in two sunroof variants: a panoramic sunroof for the top spec models while a smaller one for the base model. The SUV is expected to feature a 10.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system though, the high spec variants can also expect major other luxury features. The Indian showrooms for the brand are expected to be inaugurated in the coming months.
