MG ZS EV Officially Launched in India @ INR 20.88 Lakh

MG Motor has launched the ZS EV all-electric SUV in the Indian market with a starting price tag of INR 20.88 lakh. It is the second product by the brand after the Hector SUV. The car was first showcased at the NuGen Mobility Summit 2019 in Manesar, Gurugram. The pre-bookings for the car were opened 27 days ago and it has already managed to bag 2,800 bookings.

The pre-bookings for the car were commenced in five major cities – Bengaluru, Delhi, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Ahmedabad. Talking about the price range, the car has been priced aggressively. The customers who have booked the electric SUV before January 17 will get an introductory price tag of INR 19.88 lakh for the Excite variant and INR 22.58 lakh for the Exclusive variant.

Only the first 1,000 customers would be getting INR 1 lakh discount and for the rest of the customers, the price of the SUV is INR 20.88 lakh and INR 23.58 lakh for the Excite and Exclusive variants respectively.

Coming to the variants of the all-electric SUV, the base Excite variant gets 17-inch alloy wheels, keyless entry/go, automatic projector headlamps with LED DRLs, 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, electronic parking brake and tyre pressure monitoring system.

On the other hand, the Exclusive variant of the car gets power-adjustable driver’s seat, panoramic sunroof, rain-sensing wipers, leatherette seats, and PM 2.5 filter in the cabin. The standard safety kit in the car includes six airbags, ABS, ESC, hill-start assist, hill-descent control, rear parking camera and sensors.

Mechanically, the five-seat ZS EV is driven by a permanent magnet synchronous motor that is capable of producing out 143HP of maximum power along with 353Nm of peak torque. It comes mated to a single-speed automatic transmission. The car goes from 0-100kmph in just 8.5 seconds. It is equipped with a 44.5kWh, liquid-cooled battery that delivers an ARAI-certified range of 340km.

The lithium-ion battery pack is IP-67 certified that ensures the water-resistance up to the depth of 1 metre for 30 minutes. The MG ZS EV gets three driving modes and three levels of regenerative braking. It makes use of Type 2 (AC) and European CCS (DC) charging standards. The brand will install a 7.4kW AC charger at customer’s office/home which can charge the battery within 6-8 hours. The MG ZS EV will be a direct competitor to the Hyundai’s Kona and yet-to-be-launched Tata Nexon EV.
