Morris Garages (MG) has officially unveiled the MG Extender pickup truck. Presently available as Maxus T70 in the international markets like China and Australia, the MG Extender is a rebadged version of the same. According to the reports, the brand will be launching the Extender in Thai markets for now. India is highly unlikely to get the pickup truck considering their lesser demand in the country.
Since both MG and Maxus have the same parent company SAIC, the possibility to rebadge the Maxus T70 as MG Extender arrived. Taking the styling cues from Maxus T70, the MG Extender features the same upright nose profile with flared wheel arches and a sturdy outlook. The pickup truck will be available in both the crew cab layout and extended cab layout as that of the Maxus T70. Apart from these, a larger grille at the front with MG badging at the centre sets the MG Extender apart from the Maxus T70.
In terms of cabin layout, MG has equipped the Extender with a 10.0-inch infotainment system placed at the centre of the dashboard. The touchscreen system is also compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The higher-spec trims of the new pickup truck will get an all-leather upholstery in addition to premium leather inserts on the seats and dashboard.
Powering the MG Extender is a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine capable of churning out a maximum power of 163HP and 375Nm of peak torque. The engine has been mated to a 6-speed manual transmission while the customers can also avail 6-speed automatic transmission with the pickup truck. The MG Extender can be further availed with two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive layout.
According to the reports, the Indian roads are highly likely to get the MG’s version of Maxus D90 SUV. The brand is likely to unveil the rebadged Maxus D90 by the end of 2020. In addition to this, MG has recently launched theHector SUV in India. The bookings for the SUV have already been closed for the remaining period of 2019 considering its high demand in the market.
