Mitsubishi Xpander, flaunting the next generation of Japanese design language for an MPV, has been officially confirmed for Indian launch. Recently, it was launched in Indonesia for IDR 199 million (INR 9.40 lakh approx). The front fascia is futuristic, carrying sleek headlights, larger than life indicators and fog lights, three-slat grill with a brushed aluminum finish and unique bumper design. The boxy feel is almost avoided on the front and rear through sharp creases and visible division between the parts. The rear end is available with L-shaped boomerang inspired lights and high boot lip. The use of machine finished alloy wheels, and higher ground clearance makes Xpander a wonderful visual delight.
The interior of the new MPV is finished in beige, providing passengers the much required airy feel when traveling longer than usual distances. The light shade offers wood finished panels in between for better contrast. They even offer a black interior with silver inserts for those who love the sporty finish. The three-spoke steering wheel and gloss black center console stay identical in both trims. Mitsubishi Xpander comes with an impressive instrument console, bringing a decently large colored MID in the middle of the tachometer and speedometer. The third-row seats offer a single touch rear access.
The unique Xpander design is pedestrian friendly, reducing chances of fatal results from a direct hit at moderate speeds. It comes with other security enhancing features like hill start assist, ABS, active stability control and emergency braking lights. The top spec variant for Xpander is priced at IDR 255.4 million (INR 12.10 lakh approx) in Indonesia. The 1499cc, four-cylinder petrol engine on the car is good for 104 hp at 6000 rpm and 141 Nm at 4000 rpm. The engine comes with an option between 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic gearbox. Xpander measures 4475mm in length, 1750mm in width and 1700mm in height. Xpander SUV is expected to launch in India in 2020, and the direct rivals are Maruti Ertiga and Mahindra Marazzo.
