According to the reports, the 2020 Renault Kwid hatchback is all set to be launched by the brand shortly. Rumoured to be equipped with a host of new updates, the first set of undisguised spy shots of the hatchback has surfaced online before its official launch. As per the leaked images, the top variant of the hatchback, christened as Climber, features some top-end premium components that will allow it to give a tough competition to the newest aspirant on the list, the Maruti Suzuki S-Presso.
Coming to the new updates, the hatchback now features a split headlamp unit inspired from the Renault K-ZE variant. The main headlamps have been placed in a deep recess inside the front bumper to protect them from breakage in case of a minor collision. In addition to this, the front grille has been mated to the LED DRLs on either side that further offers it a premium look.
The lower front grille has also been redesigned with new horizontal stripes that replace the honeycomb mesh grille seen on the current-gen variant. The tail lamps, as well as the LED reflectors, have also been redesigned in the 2020 Renault Kwid while the alloy wheels have also been offered a new look adorning a gunmetal grey paint job.
In addition to his, the facelifted Renault Kwid Climber variant has been further equipped with faux skid plates as well as body cladding and roof rails. The updated hatchback is expected to be 56mm longer than its current-gen variant and measures 3,735mm in length.
Inspired from the recently launched Renault Triber, the upcoming hatchback is expected to get similar interior features to allow the brand to price it competitively. The 2020 Renault Kwid Climber is expected to feature a fully digital instrument panel in addition to getting a new steering wheel design. The brand is likely to offer the hatchback with an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
Apart from the cosmetic changes, the facelifted Renault Kwid will remain mechanically unaltered. The 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine will be capable of generating maximum power of 68 HP while the 0.8-litre petrol engine will be good for a maximum power of 54HP.
The engine will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard while the customers can also avail the 5-speed AMT transmission. The brand is also expected to roll out the BS6-compliant engine of the Renault Kwid before the implementation of the new emission norms in the country from April 1, 2020.
