Base Model of Renault Duster Scores 0 Stars in Global NCAP Crash Test

Base Model of Renault Duster Scores 0 Stars in Global NCAP Crash Test | One Airbag Model Gets 3 Stars

A recent report from Global NCAP crash tests claim that Indian made Renault Duster scored zero stars when it was tested for the frontal crash for adult occupation protection. The same model scored 2 stars for rear child occupant protection.

The model used here is the base variant of Renault Duster that comes without even a single airbag. NCAP has been conducting crash tests from 2014 and India’s crash test speed for the frontal crash is 48 kmph. Global NCAP takes this speed up to 64 kmph.

The results were shared with Renault and they requested a test for the middle variant with single airbag. The car with one airbag scored 3-star rating in the same test.

The difference that was noticed is that the same car that is built in Colombia showed 4-star rating with driver only airbag. The result of the investigation brought the real reason behind this difference. The Latin America Duster came with a bigger airbag. The same was tested in 2015 while the current generation Indian car failed to perform the same.

Commenting on the results, David Ward, secretary general of Global NCAP, said, “The version of the Duster with an airbag scores three stars, but this too fell short as it was fitted with a smaller one. A model with the correct size of airbag should be provided as standard.”

Renault recently launched Duster Petrol CVT Automatic in India

The same test was conducted for Renault KWID and it even scored the least with only 1 star for the airbag version and zero for the base variant. Consumers are demanding safer cars and most brand are now offering dual SRS airbags as standard on its base variants.

Mahindra and Maruti offers the same as optional while Toyota and VW offer the same standard. Brands like Hyundai and Ford are even offering cars with 6-airbags in the top spec version. Ford Figo is the most affordable car to get 6 airbags.
