2020 Skoda Rapid Midsize Sedan Officially Unveiled

The 2020 Skoda Rapid has been recently revealed by the brand in the international markets. The sedan has been currently updated for Russia and the European countries. The customers will be able to get their hands on the revised Rapid sedan in Russia followed by other countries later. The Skoda Rapid available in the international markets is different from the one sold in the Indian markets since the former is based on a larger PQ35 platform while the India-spec Rapid is based on the smaller PQ25 platform suitable for the Indian roads. Taking the styling cues from the bigger Skoda sedans, the 2020 Rapid looks fresh when compared to its last-gen version. The brand has offered the sedan with new headlights design in addition to offering a revised bumper as well as a redesigned front grille. The higher-spec variant of the sedan features LED headlight and taillight setup while the lower-spec have been equipped with halogen headlamps. The 2020 Skoda Rapid now features a redesigned Skoda emblem which will be made standard with the upcoming Skoda models. The significant curves at the side of the Rapid remain identical to the last-gen variant. Coming to the rear profile of the updated sedan, the 2020 Skoda Rapid now features all-new sleeker tail light design while at the same time, the rear bumper has also been revised with new designing traits. Apart from the cosmetic changes, the revised Skoda Rapid has been kept mechanically unaltered for the international markets. Powering the sedan is the same 1.6-litre MPI or an optional 1.4-litre TSI engine. The gearbox options include a manual gearbox as well as an automatic transmission. Coming to the Indian market, Skoda is expected to launch a BS6-compliant version of the Skoda Rapid before the new emission norms commence in the country from April 1, 2020. One can expect the brand to bring out a 1.0-litre TSI BS6 engine for the Indian market, which will specifically replace the 1.2-litre TSI petrol engine currently available with the sedan. Also, one can expect the 1.5-litre diesel to be discontinued in India considering its inability to meet the stricter emission norms.
