Skoda Karoq was recently unwrapped by the Czech manufacturer internationally. The car is ready to replace the aged Skoda Yeti in its lineup. Karoq was unveiled in Sweden and comes into action against Europe’s popular Nissan Qashqai.
The car is built on Volkswagen MQB platform and would definitely share technology with Volkswagen Tiguan. The design language of Karoq is highly influenced by Kodiaq SUV that will make its way into Indian in the coming months. Yeti is a successful model worldwide while it was not that popular in India.
Skoda dropped the Yeti moniker in order to name this mid-sized SUV in relation to the Kodiaq. That will help fans guess the overall purpose of the car without looking at its body design as both named sound quite close to each other.
Even Karoq has the same initial and last alphabet as Kodiaq. China is the fastest growing market for Skoda as they sold 1.1 million cars in 2016. The need for compact SUV in that market pushed Yeti into evolution. As all other Skoda and Volkswagen cars, Karoq will also feature loads of engine and drive-train options.
Karoq will offer 1.0 liter, TSI petrol motor producing 115 HP and 1.5 liter TSI petrol engine with cylinder deactivation, producing 150 HP. The second engine takes just 8.4 seconds for a 0-100 kmph sprint. The 2.0 liter, TDI engine is good for 150 HP in one tune and 190 HP in another.
Skoda will even introduce the new 1.6 liter TDI engine producing 115 HP on the car. Features like adaptive cruise control, driving modes, rear traffic alert, 19-inch alloys wheel, LED headlights, LED tail lights, lane assist and blind spot detection makes Skoda Karoq an even better option over the existing Yeti.
