Skoda made the day by revealing its much awaited Kodiaq SUV internationally in Berlin, Germany. The car possesses a huge character with its 4697 mm of length and impressed everyone with its wide range of engines, starting with a 1.4 TSI petrol motor, making the car weigh surprisingly low at just 1452 kg. This 1.4 TSI motor comes in two stages to tune (125PS/150PS) while the same is with the 2.0 TDI engine (150PS/190PS). The most powerful petrol on offer is the 2.0 L TSI with 180 PS of output. The car is offered with manual as well as DSG gearboxes, along with a 4 wheel drive option.
Skoda Kodiaq SUV Officially Unveiled
Based on the MQB platform, the car gets more closer to the Octavia than the Superb and features a bold fascia with all Black grill and full LED headlights with a bit of attitude added to them. Kodiaq is offered in five and seven seat variants, cutting all of the competition with its starting price of £22,500 (INR 19.97 lakhs, after converting to Indian Rupees). The car will be available on road from April 2017 and you can expect the Kodiaq to launch in India by festive season in 2017.
The design of this SUV, along with the plans of Skoda to expand worldwide makes it a good option for a Coupe variant in the coming future. The company in undergoing a feasibility study in order to launch the same in the US. The major rivals of the newcomer are Kia Sorento, Hyundai Santa Fe and Nissan X-Trail. The Indian pricing will decide its fate most probably in 2017.
Skoda Kodiaq measures 4697mm in length, 1882 mm in width and 1676 mm in height. It offers the most technologically rich cabin in its class and a 720 mm boot space in the 5-seat variant (2065 litres boot space with rear seat folded). The wheel size will vary with variants, ranging from 17 to 19 inch. Heavily resembling the Vision S Concept, the car even carries 8 inch infotainment system with 64 GB flash drive.
Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Spot detection, rear traffic alert and many other features are standard on the newcomer. It even comes with Emergency Assist, Traffic Jam Assist and many other comfort and safety enhancing features. The brochure release in the coming time will decide the fate of these features on the selected variants. Skoda connect will be available as an option for all the variants for sure.
