Tata’s much-awaited Altroz DCA has finally made its official debut in the Indian car market and is now available with a starting ex-showroom price of Rs 8.10 lakh. Those who want to buy the car can do so by booking it online or by visiting the authorised dealership and depositing a minimal amount of Rs 21,000. Tata has introduced seven new Altroz DCA variants: XMA+, XTA, XZA, XZA(O), XZA+, XTA Dark, and XZA+ Dark.
The manufacturer has offered the new model with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, which is available on the 1.2L 3-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine. This engine generates 86bhp of power and 113Nm of torque. As claimed by Tata, the DCA gearbox was designed specifically for Indian climatic and road conditions, and it includes active cooling technology and machine learning.
In particular, Altroz’s DCA gearbox features shift-by-wire technology. It is entirely electrical, with no mechanical links. Initially, the DCT transmission was supposed to debut with the Altroz’s more powerful 110hp, 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine. Tata Motors also conducted experiments on the turbo-DCA type, which proved to be too pricey for our market. While the Altroz turbo-DCA may have competed with the Hyundai i20 DCT, its price tag would have been a barrier.
However, the equipment list on all the variants remains similar to their manual counterparts. That means a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, iRA connected car tech, a 7.0-inch part-digital instrument cluster, keyless entry with push-button start-stop, automatic climate control, automatic headlights, rain-sensing wipers, and leatherette upholstery are all standard on the top-spec Altroz. The Altroz DCA also gets a new safety function dubbed “auto park lock,” which enters park mode automatically even if the driver forgets to do so while departing the car.
