Ratan Tata is unquestionably one of India’s as well as the world’s most well-known industrialists. Among the numerous feathers in his crown is the Tata Nano, which was priced at Rs 1 lakh and helped many Indians realise their ambition of owning a car. Unfortunately, the car didn’t become successful in the Indian car market, but it definitely made some noise in the car industry, and in 2018, the brand brought the Nano back to life with an electric concept.
After a significant four years, Electra EV presented the electric Nano to its founder, Mr Ratan Tata, and called it the moment of truth for them and their creation. Electra EV completed the whole modification work on this modified Nano, which features an electric motor in place of the basic 624cc two-cylinder petrol engine. This Nano is powered by a 72V powertrain constructed of super polymer lithium-ion batteries, with a maximum driving range of 160 km and a sprint time of fewer than 10 seconds.
Recently, a video of Mr Ratan Tata visiting the Taj Hotel in the four-seater electric Nano has surfaced online and a plethora of people have expressed their respect and admiration for such a humble act by the tycoon. Some netizens even asked the industrialist to reintroduce the vehicle, referring to it as a “legendary car.” Although production ceased in 2018, the automobile continues to have a particular place in the hearts of some middle-class Indian families.
Just a few days ago, Ratan Tata posted a touching and lengthy caption that the car was always “meant for all our people.” He penned down, “What really motivated me, and sparked a desire to produce such a vehicle, was constantly seeing Indian families on scooters…. At first, we were trying to figure out how to make two-wheelers safer, the doodles became four wheels, no windows, no doors, just a basic dune buggy. But I finally decided it should be a car. The Nano was always meant for all our people.”
