The production-ready variant of the Tata Altroz has been recently revealed by the brand and it is circling the news ever since its official unveiling. The hatchback will be available with BS6-compliant diesel and petrol engine options at the time of its official launch in February 2020 though the brand will only offer a manual gearbox option in the first phase. Contrary to the recent reports, which stated that the Altroz will get an AMT gearbox, Tata is instead working on a dual-clutch automatic transmission for the upcoming hatchback.
Tata Altroz will be the first hatchback in the brand’s segment that will feature a dual-clutch automatic transmission. The brand has been planning to unveil the said gearbox since February 2018 and Altroz will be the debutant product to get the same.
The future launch of the new gearbox option has been confirmed by Mayank Pareek, President, Passenger Vehicles, Tata Motors. Though the addition of a DCT will consequently increase the price range for the hatchback, one can easily accommodate the increase in price for a better gearbox without losing the mileage.
The Punch-sourced 7-speed DT-1 dual-clutch transmission will be offered on the Tata Altroz for the 1.2-litre petrol engine variant only while the diesel engine will not get the DCT gearbox. Though there has been no confirmation on the launch date of the automatic transmission for the Tata Altroz as of yet, one can expect the brand to unveil the Altroz Automatic sometime in October 2020.
