After tasting the success with Tiago, Nexon, and Tigor, Tata Motors is all-set to launch the most-awaited Harrier SUV in India in January 2019. The brand today revealed the official photos of the SUV and we must say that the exterior design is very close to the H5X concept showcased at the Auto Expo in February 2018. The bookings for the Harrier are already open with a token amount of INR 30,000.
A majority of buyers prefer diesel power in this segment and, Tata will take things to the next level. It will leave the Nexon engine for a more powerful 2.0L Fiat sourced diesel unit. The engine will be tuned to produce 140 HP of maximum power. The same unit in serving Jeep Compass for India. A report also claims that 170 HP version will be exclusive for the seven-seat version of Harrier, which is expected to be introduced at a later stage in India.
The base variant of the SUV will use a 6-speed manual gearbox while the top model will offer a 9-speed automatic transmission. This makes the upcoming SUV a direct rival to Jeep Compass. The car is using a Land Rover inspired frame and thus, the overall cost of production is definitely high on their side. Tata Hexa is priced around the same segment and thus, buyers will have an option of either having a full-sized UV or a sporty SUV from the Indian manufacturer.
Sleek headlights, angry facial expressions, high bonnet, and a sporty bumper will define the arrival of Harrier in India. For those who thought Nexon feels like a smiling car, Harrier is an evolved version with bigger dimensions, mature expressions, bigger wheel arches and Land Rover inspired rear end. The roof profile is similar to Nexon, and why not keep it similar, if they know it was the best part of the currently successful product.
New Hyundai Creta has evolved into a mean machine through its huge front grill and faux bash plates, giving Tata harrier some serious competition points. Tata Motors has not yet revealed the interior of the car but it is expected to be very spacious, high-tech and Harrier will be one of the most feature-loaded car in its segment. As per a recent report, the expected on-road price of Harrier SUV is INR 16-21 lakh.
