According to the recent reports, Tata Motors will be unveiling their all-new volume focussed micro SUV at the Auto Expo in February 2020. Highly likely to be christened as Tata Hornbill, the micro SUV is based on the Tata H2X concept which was initially unveiled at a motoring show in Switzerland in March 2019. As per the officials, the Tata Hornbill and the upcoming Tata Altroz, the premium hatchback from the brand, will be sharing 70% of the parts.
Both the products will be completely different from one another in terms of designing and body language while sharing the same underpinnings. This will allow Tata Motors to keep the cost of production under check and offer their premium products at an affordable price range. After Harrier and the upcoming 7-seater Buzzard and the Altroz hatchback, Tata Motors will be launching the Hornbill by March/April 2020.
The upcoming Tata Altroz premium hatchback from the brand is based on the brand new ALFA (Advanced Light Flexible Agile) architecture while it will be competing in the market with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Hyundai Elite i20, Volkswagen Polo, and the Honda Jazz.
According to the reports, the H2X concept based micro SUV Hornbill is the third product after the Tata Harrier and Altroz from Tata Motors to get Impact Design 2.0 design philosophy. The micro SUV will also be based on the ALFA platform that is being used by the brand for the majority of its upcoming products. The brand is likely to launch the Tata Hornbill micro SUV with a 1.2-litre Revotron three-cylinder petrol engine that will be further mated to a 5-speed AMT or manual transmission.
The concept design shows the SUV with an upright front profile with a split headlamp design. The SUV is expected to get a flared wheel arches, flat roof as well as a compressed tail section. When launched in India, the Tata Hornbill will compete against the likes of Maruti Suzuki Concept Future S based S-Presso as well as the Mahindra KUV100.
