Tata Motors Working on Electric Tiago Hatchback

Tata Tiago is the best selling car in the company lineup. A recent report in the automotive industry states that Tata Motors is working on an electric version of Tiago. It would be the first car from Tata Motors to be on sale with a fully electric driving dynamics.

Tata Motors UK technical center has been testing battery operated vehicles from quite some time now. It will take Bolt BEV as its base as most components will be sourced from the same.

The low cost platform of Tiago makes it even better than Bolt EV as most markets where it will be pitched are cost effective and need products that are environment friendly and affordable at the same time.

The sharing of parts by various Indian manufacturers will also help Tata Motors share some cost in the coming time. Even the Indian government is pushing manufacturers into the electric vehicle direction for a green and clean future.

Apart from these two, electric version of Nano was even spotted close to Coimbatore. Ola, the cab solution brand may provide a huge market to these products. If Tata Motors takes the right step in this way, its new electric bus will also soon be seen on the Indian roads.

This will further help keeping the pollution level down in cities as increasing population is demanding more public sources of transport and this would be the safest way to fulfill the same.

Tata Tiago is currently powered by a 1047 cc, thee cylinder diesel and 1199 cc, three cylinder petrol engine. The former is claiming 27.28 kmpl of mileage while the petrol model is even good for 23.84 kmpl of claimed mileage.

The petrol motor is a powerful option with 85 PS at 6000 rpm and 114 Nm at 3500 rpm. The engine comes mated to 5-speed manual gearbox as standard. The price for Tata Tiago starts from just INR 3.20 lakhs.
