Tata Nexon EV Coupe SUV On The Way to India – Report

After the success of the Tata Nexon EV in the Indian vehicle market, the company is focusing on the expansion of the electric vehicle segment in the country by adding around 10 EVs. As per the latest media reports, Tata Motors is currently planning to build a bigger, all-electric coupe version of the Nexon EV as a key model in its EV lineup.

While there will be an IC engine version offered, initially envisioned as a mid-size SUV in 2018 to compete with the Hyundai Creta, the Nexon Coupe will be a stretched version of the current Nexon with a new coupe body style, designed to accommodate both petrol and diesel engine options.

Speaking of the build and design of the Nexon Coupe SUV, it will be based on the same X1 platform that is being used in the Nexon EV and will share the design language as well. The A-pillar, front doors, and windscreen will be retained, and the B-pillar will face the change. The rear doors will also be longer to meet the new rear-end. It is also anticipated that the rear-end expansion will offer ample legroom and boot space.

In addition, according to the sources, the wheelbase will also be extended in measurement. Also, the forthcoming coupe is likely to get a completely redesigned front fascia and styling.

As for the powertrain, the Nexon Coupe will be offered as a pure EV. However, the exact figures are not available, but we can safely assume it uses the same electric drive as the Nexon EV, but the used battery pack might be larger, up to 40 kWh. After the launch of the Nexon Coupe, which doesn’t seem to happen before 2023, the Nexon EV is also expected to get an update in the powertrain to generate more power and torque, up to 129 hp and 245 Nm.
