As per a recent report by ACI, Tata Motors is ready with its electric vehicle known as Nexon EV that will be showcased at an event organised in Mumbai on December 17, 2019. The Nexon EV will be the Indian manufacturer’s first electric SUV for the country although the SUV is reportedly not the first electric car offered by the brand as Tata already has Tigor EV in its product portfolio.
As of now, the unveiling has been scheduled for December whereas the launch will take place at a later stage. Although the Tata Nexon EV is not the debut model in the electric segment yet it is the premier model that will be equipped with the brand’s latest Ziptron electric powertrain technology that is capable to provide a range of 250 to 300km on a single charge. The electric model consists of a Lithium-Ion battery, which will be liquid-cooled and contains IP67 certification for water and dust resistance.
Digging deep into the capabilities of the Ziptron powertrain we found out that the Battery Management System (BMS) in it has been designed for an extended battery life of up to eight years and will offer consistent performance. The Ziptron is a permanent magnet AC motor with regenerative braking that recharges the battery on the go. The powertrain also has a dedicated cooling circuit in a bid to provide a consistent performance when dealing with hot weather conditions.
With respect to multiple teasers that have been released by the company, it can be said that in terms of looks, the all-electric model of the Nexon will be somewhat similar to the petrol and diesel versions of the Nexon SUV. The EV is expected to go on sale sometime between January and March next year and is expected to be offered at a price tag of INR 15-17 lakh (ex-showroom). Among its competitors is the all-electric Mahindra XUV300 that is expected to arrive by mid-2020.
