Video: Tata Nexon Scores 4 Stars in Global NCAP Crash Test

A personal win for Tata Motors, the Nexon compact SUV has secured a 4-star adult occupant rating and a 3-star child occupant rating in the Global NCAP crash tests. The report from Global NCAP states that the Nexon “can offer four-star adult occupant protection with good protection for the head and neck of driver and passenger, and adequate protection for their chests”. The report also goes on to say that the shell integrity of the Nexon is stable in the 64 kmph offset deformable barrier crash test.

The 3-star rating that the Nexon secured in the child occupant crash test is because of the rearward facing ISOFIX Child Restraint System by Tata and the installation of the ISOFIX anchorages. The test was carried out considering that the dummy was an 18-month old baby. The technology provides a good protection to the head and a limited protection to the chest.

Dual airbags are available across all the variants of the Nexon, as is the ABS. However, the ISOFIX child seat anchorages are offered only on the XZ+ and the XZA+ variants. Talking about the performance of the Nexon in the crash tests, the secretary general of Global NCAP David Ward said, “The four stars awarded to the Tata Nexon represent a very strong result from a major Indian car manufacturer. This impressive safety performance is comfortably above the new crash test standards applied in India to new models since October 2017. It is very encouraging to see Tata aiming high for safety and a great example for others to follow. The race is clearly on for India’s first five-star car.”

The President of the Road Traffic Education, Rohit Baluja, also had some words to chime in, “I wish to congratulate Tata on this very good result. It shows that ‘Made in India’ and high levels of safety go together well. With excellent efforts like this from Tata and the new crash test standards now applied by the Indian Government, we are going to see a steady improvement in the safety of new cars across the country and this will help to make our roads safer.”
