Top 10 Most Fuel-Efficient Cars In India (Best Mileage Cars)

In our country, one of the most important aspects of buying a vehicle is its mileage. That’s the reason that the brands that offer fuel-efficient cars are most popular in India and Maruti Suzuki is one of them. Thanks to the high mileage cars, they always top the charts. Nowadays, almost all carmakers in the Indian market are trying to bring new models with better mileage.

Here we have brought a list of the top 10 cars with different powertrains from petrol, petrol-electric hybrid, diesel, and CNG. However, we need to mention here that the below-mentioned figures may vary in the real world since these are brand-claimed statistics.

1. Maruti Suzuki Celerio – 35.60 km/kg & 26.68 km/l

First on the list is the Maruti Suzuki Celerio hatchback. It is driven by a DualJet K10, 3-cylinder 1.0L petrol+CNG engine that produces 56 bhp and 82 Nm while delivering 35.60 km/kg. Celerio is equipped with a five-speed manual gearbox. Celerio gets 26.68 kmpl while running on petrol.

2. Maruti Suzuki WagonR – 34.05 km/kg To 25.19 km/l

Next on the list is Maruti Suzuki’s WagonR which always takes the crown in the top 10 best-selling cars in the country. Powering the WagonR is the same powertrain that gives power to Maruti Suzuki Celerio. However, it only obtains 34.05 km/kg. It belts out 25.19 km/l on petrol.

3. Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 31.59 km/kg To 22 km/l

On 3rd place, it’s again the Maruti. We should not surprise by this because the Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 is here with its effective mileage figures. This smallest car has remained one of the highest selling cars in the country since its introduction and now it is going to get the next-gen model with new looks and advanced features. Powering the Alto 800 is a 0.8L engine that churns out 40 bhp and 60 Nm. It offers fuel efficiency of 31.59 km/kg on CNG and 22 km/l with petrol on Petrol.

4. Maruti Suzuki Dzire – 31.12 km/kg To 24.1 km/l

According to our top 25 rankings, the Dzire is presently the third best-selling vehicle. It is a sub-4m compact sedan car with a fuel economy of 31.12 km/kg. It is driven by a 1.2L K12C DualJet engine that produces 76 hp and 98.5 Nm of torque.

5. Hyundai Aura / Grand i10 Nios – 28 km/kg To 21 km/l

Because of being the same, the Hyundai Aura and Grand i10 Nios also share the mileage figures. They both have the claimed fuel efficiency of 28 km/kg on CNG and 21 km/l on petrol. Both have a 1.2L 4-cylinder petrol+CNG engine with 68 hp of power and 95 Nm of torque. CNG models were only offered in lower to intermediate trim levels for each car. However, Hyundai recently included CNG in top-spec Asta versions.

6. Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara / Toyota HyRyder – 27.97 km/l

This list also includes Maruti’s flagship, a big compact SUV. This is because both the Grand Vitara and the HyRyder are powered by Toyota’s strong hybrid technology. It sports a 1.5L engine as well as an electric motor. This system produces 114 hp in accord and is equipped with an e-CVT transmission that achieves up to 27.97 km/l. Both will be available soon.

7. Honda All New City e:HEV – 26.5 km/l

Another car on the list is the Honda City e:HEV with 26.5/kmpl mileage. Powered by a 0.734 KWh, 172.8 Volt Lithium-ion Battery, the car comes under strong hybrid powertrain vehicles. When the battery runs out of juice, the engine kicks in and charges it. The hard lifting is done by two electric motors with 98 PS rated between 5,600 and 6,400rpm. From idle to 3,000rpm, they yield 253 Nm.

8. Tata Tigor / Tiago – 26.4 km/kg To 20 km/l

Tata’s entry-level cars, the Tiago hatchback and Tigor sedan claim 26.4 km/kg on CNG and 20 km/l on petrol. Tata is relatively new to CNG technology, but the firm appears to be doing well. Both are powered by a 1.2L three-cylinder engine that produces 72 hp of power and 95 Nm of torque.

9. Maruti Suzuki Ertiga – 26.1 km/kg To 20.5 km/l

The Ertiga, India’s best-selling MPV, also makes the list thanks to S-CNG models. With CNG, the 1.5L engine produces 87 hp of power and 121.5 Nm and has a 26 km/kg mileage. Ertiga gets 20.5 km/l while running on petrol.

10. Maruti Suzuki S-Presso – 25.3 km/l

Because the S-Presso CNG is not yet available, we only consider its petrol engine efficiency. The freshly released 2022 S-Presso is powered by a 1.0L engine producing 66 hp and 89 Nm of torque. The manual transmission versions have a fuel economy rating of 24.12 km/l, whereas the AMT variants have a fuel economy rating of 25.3 km/l.
