Indian car market has seen a lot of ups and down after the launch of premium products like Maruti Baleno, Hyundai Creta and Toyota Innova Crysta. The market was once focused on basic cars while now, most of the manufacturers are offering premium products in place of the old designed models. The top 20 selling cars in March 2017 gives a glimpse of practical automobile solutions in the country as you may not even remember other car names after reading all of these in one go. Even the one on number 20 sells more than 5000 units every month.
Maruti Alto is leading the sales charts with 18,868 units sold in March this year

Maruti sold 16,426 units of Baleno in March 2017
The best selling car comes out to be Maruti Alto, selling 18,868 units in the month of March 2017. It was closely followed by Maruti Baleno as it sold a total of 16,426 units in the same month. This made it the best selling premium hatchback of India. The increase in number was so intense that Maruti’s very own Dzire (15,894) and Swift (15,513) were left at third and fourth place. Fifth and sixth spot was claimed by Hyundai Grand i10 and i20 Elite, both selling 12,545 and 12,394 units respectively. They were quite close in terms of sales to each other.
Renault sold 10,296 units of KWID in March 2017
Maruti WagonR went down and got itself the seventh spot with 12,105 units sold in March 2017. Renault KWID was able to sell 10,296 units while Maruti Vitara Brezza went to 10,057 buyers in the same month. The tenth spot was occupied by Hyundai Creta, crossing the four digit barrier and selling 10,001 units in March 2017. This makes all the ten cars good for five digit sales in the last month of FY 2016-17. Maruti Celerio came eleventh with 8823 units while Mahindra Bolero was left behind by just few units at 8681 in the same month.
Toyota sold 7252 units of Innova Crysta in March 2017
The most expensive out of all, Toyota Innova Crysta sold 7252 units and bagged the thirteenth position. Then came the famous Honda City at 6271 units, closely followed by Maruti Omni at 6103 units. The last few cars were Maruti Ertiga, Hyundai Eon, Maruti Eeco, Maruti Ignis and Mahindra Scorpio. These trends were heartbreaking for fans of other brands except Maruti and Hyundai as both had 11 and 4 cars in the top 20 list respectively. This takes their total market share among the most popular cars to 75 percent, which is practically unbeatable.
Ford sold 41 Mustangs in India in March 2017
Apart from these, the popular cars in India saw a huge difference of sales against each other. Ford Endeavour and Toyota Fortuner sold 390 and 2060 units respectively, moving away from each other with Toyota getting 328 percent of sales increase from Feb 2017. Fiat India sold a total of just 353 cars while Chevrolet could not make over 1318 units in the same month. Ford Mustang was strong enough to find 41 buyers in the country. Honda’s newly launched WR-V fetched 3833 units while Nissan GT-R was unable to deliver even a single unit in March 2017.
