Toyota Glanza is most likely the official name for the rebadged version of Maruti Baleno. The car was awaited for a long time as the partnership between Suzuki and Toyota is the first of its kind venture that will use an existing product to form a rival with a rebadged identity.
The similar cars seen earlier like Duster and Terrano are available due to the same parent brand but in this case, the two have different parent brands and all they will share is technology with each other. The rebadged Baleno (codenamed A11), would be getting just the 1.2L petrol motor initially, with a 5-speed manual as standard and CVT as an option from the brand.
You can imagine the Toyota Glanza as a Heartect platform car with engine mounted within the chassis and wrapped with Toyota body panels all around. The two variants for the new Glanza are expected to be high-end options and thus, expecting Toyota to use more technology on these variants will not be wrong at all.
Toyota will officially share the details regarding their new car on April 26 while the launch is expected on June 6, 2019. The 1.2L engine on the Toyota Glanza will be BS6-compliant and thus, prices will be higher than regular petrol cars.
The rivals on the list include Hyundai i20, Honda Jazz and even the Maruti Baleno. The first step for platform sharing, Glanza will open the doors for Ertiga, Ciaz and Vitara Brezza to get rebadged versions from Toyota while they will also share the platform of Corolla Altis with Maruti Suzuki in the next phase.
Apart from the plans of discontinuing the smaller diesel engines, these two brands will update their petrol engines to get the emissions under BS6-directed levels. Baleno with the new 1.2L DualJet engine has already been launched in India and that one comes with the smart hybrid system as standard.
