2021 Toyota Harrier SUV Officially Revealed; Not Coming to India

The 2021 Toyota Harrier SUV is the talk of the town ever since the very first images of its next-gen avatar surfaced on the web. The brand has updated the crossover SUV with a host of premium features while one can expect it to offer improved performance as well. Based on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) similar to the one offered to the premium crossovers like RAV4 and Lexus range, the upcoming SUV variant will be launched in the Japanese markets in the initial phase.

Though the Toyota Harrier has been imparted a similar name when compared to the Tata’s flagship product, Tata Harrier, one cannot simply confuse both the SUVs to be similar in any context. The Toyota Harrier was available in the international markets way before the launch of Tata Harrier which actually goes by the name “Buzzard” in the said markets to avoid the confusion.

The next-gen Toyota Harrier now measures 4,740mm in length, 1,855mm in width and 1,660mm in height. The brand has increased the length and width of the new-gen crossover by 20mm while the height has been reduced by a total of 30mm to complement its sharper aerodynamics. The wheelbase of the SUV has also been shod up by 30mm and now stands at 2,690mm.

By employing the TNGA (GA-K) platform on the 2021 Toyota Harrier, the brand has recently introduced the 2.0-litre Dynamic Force four-cylinder NA GDI petrol engine for the SUV that is capable of churning out a maximum power of 171HP and a peak torque of 207Nm. The engine comes mated to a Direct-Shift CVT gearbox while gets a front-wheel-drive system as standard. The customers can also avail the AWD (all-wheel-drive) format with the Direct Force engine as an option.

In addition to this, the Japanese markets will also get the SUV with a Hybrid engine christened as Toyota Hybrid System II that will be good for 178HP of power along with 221Nm of torque. It features a 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine mated to an 88kW electric motor. The engine will be mated to a CVT gearbox.

After the launch of the 2021 Toyota Harrier in the Japanese markets, the brand will be unveiling the SUV in European as well as few ASEAN countries though the Indian markets are highly unlikely to receive it.
