In Indonesia, the all-new Toyota Innova Zenix made its global debut today. In the Indonesian markets, the Toyota MPV is known as the Innova Zenix while the brand has confirmed that the Innova Hycross (For India) will have a hybrid powertrain. A 2.0-litre petrol engine is also on the way for the Innova Hycross. Top-spec variants will get a hybrid system, while lower trims will get the standard engine format.
Toyota Hybrid System (THS) has been heavily localised for India to reduce production costs. THS is already seen with the Maruti Grand Vitara and the Urban Cruiser Hyryder. In place of the smaller 1.5-litre engine, Hycross will get a larger 2-0-litre unit.
THS provides many advantages, including reduced size and weight and increased fuel efficiency. With the extra power supplied by the electric motor, driving performance has also improved.
The Hycross will be powered by a 2.0-litre engine from Toyota’s Dynamic Force engine family. It is used on a variety of other Toyota and Lexus models sold around the world. Details about power and torque output, as well as transmission options, may be revealed at the launch. Dynamic Force Engine employs high-speed combustion technology and a variable control system. Thermal efficiency and output can be optimised by reducing energy loss.
Increased torque delivery across the rev range is another priority for Toyota’s Dynamic Force Engine. It is also future-proof, with the ability to meet stricter emission standards. Toyota’s Dynamic Force Engine employs many cutting-edge components. It includes the world’s first piston with a laser pit skirt and a laser-clad valve seat for the intake valve seat.
The new Toyota Innova Zenix (Hycross) also features an advanced front-wheel-drive TNGA modular architecture. We expect the monocoque chassis to improve the in-cabin experience by reducing vibrations. Toyota Innova Hycross’s initial offer price is expected to be around Rs 20 lakh. Top-spec hybrid models could cost around Rs 28 lakh. Deliveries are expected to begin in mid-January of next year.
