According to the TKM officials, the Toyota RAV4 SUV is a more suitable product for the Indian markets when compared to the Toyota Corolla Altis sedan. The premium compact SUV segment in the Indian markets is one of the most sought-after segments for the customers when it comes to exceptional styling as well as affordable prices.
Since the Indian customers have shown great enthusiasm for the likes of midsize SUVs like Tata Harrier, Hyundai Creta, MG Hector and Kia Seltos, the TKM officials now believe that a compact SUV from Toyota is what the Indian markets need next. The launch of the Toyota RAV4 in India would be one of the wisest steps taken by the brand considering the sales factor.
Commenting on considering the RAV4 launch for India, Naveen Soni, Senior VP – Sales & Service, Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM), stated – “We have been watching the market response and we witness that customer preference is evolving in the C segment from sedan to SUV. Considering such evolving market needs, we will decide on our further course of action.”
Based on the brand’s TNGA platform, the Toyota RAV4 measures 4,600mm in length, 1,855mm in width and 1,685mm in height. The wheelbase of the compact SUV stands at 2,690mm, making it compete against the Tata Harrier with almost similar dimensions.
The Toyota RAV4 is available in the international markets in three petrol powertrains including an A25A-FXS 2.5-litre petrol engine, an M20A-FKS 2.0 litre petrol unit as well as A25A-FKS 2.5-litre petrol engine.
As the SUV has not been imparted a diesel engine, the lack of one can make it lose customers in the Indian markets. The brand is further advised to test the customer response for the launch of the RAV4 in India and then make the final decision.
