Toyota is all set to launch the Glanza hatchback (Rebadged Maruti Baleno) in June 2019. The much-anticipated car has surfaced again in a new set of photos which gives us a clear view of the interior. In addition to a similar exterior as the Baleno, the hatchback also features an identical cabin, except for a Toyota badge at the centre of the steering wheel. It is now also confirmed that the Glanza indeed features a CVT automatic gearbox.
Apart from a redesigned front radiator grille, a Toyota logo on the wheels and Toyota badging at the rear of the hatchback, the Glanza remains identical to the Maruti Suzuki Baleno. The cabin features a similar touchscreen display with connectivity for Android Auto and Apple Car Play in addition to an engine start/stop button and black/blue upholstery. On the exterior, the alloy wheels, LED DRLs, projector headlamps, and the ORVMs also remain similar.
Powering the upcoming car will be a 1.2-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine as seen on the Baleno hatchback. The engine is capable of delivering 84 HP of maximum power and 115 Nm of maximum torque. The engine will be mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and will also come with an optional CVT automatic unit.
When launched in India, the Toyota Glanza will compete in the market with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Hyundai i20, and Honda Jazz. Toyota is likely to keep the price tag for the hatchback above the Maruti Baleno. The car is expected to get a starting price tag of around INR 7 lakh and will go up to INR 9 lakh for the top model. The brand will be launching the Glanza in two variants: G and V. According to the reports, Maruti has already dispatched 364 units of the Glanza to Toyota Kirloskar Motor.
