Toyota collaborated with Maruti Suzuki to develop this hybrid SUV platform, which both manufacturers will sell with their own design and branding on top. Toyota’s big bet in the C-segment SUV space is the HyRyder SUV. It made its global debut last week in India, the launch is scheduled for next month. Ahead of that, the first batch of the new HyRyder SUVs has arrived at dealer showrooms, where customers can inspect the exteriors and experience the SUV’s interiors.
The HyRyder is a stylish SUV inspired by Toyota’s global models, RAV4 in particular. With its large air dam, aggressive front fascia, and Blue colour, the HyRyder appears to be inspired by the RAV4. It has a premium-looking interior, which is typical for the segment. It has a free-standing 9-inch infotainment screen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Other notable features include a heads-up display, wireless charging, ventilated front seats, paddle shifters with automatic transmission, and AWD drive modes.
It features LED projector headlights, attractive LED DRLs, LED tail lights, panoramic sunroof and attractive 17-inch alloy wheels. Toyota HyRyder also receives a slew of connected car technology, including remote ignition, remote AC control, smartwatch integration, remote immobilizer, and Siri and Google Assistant integration.
The Neo Drive receives a mild hybrid setup with only stop/start and regeneration capability, one of two levels of Hybrid powertrain architecture available. The second hybrid architecture is a true high voltage architecture capable of much more than Neo Drive’s mild-hybrid setup. However, as of now, Neo Drive is the only one that offers AWD.
A 1462cc engine that produces around 100 bhp at 6000 RPM and 135 Nm at 4400 RPM powers the Neo Drive. It has a mild hybrid system and is available with a 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission. The Hybrid Drive is the second powertrain. It has a 1490cc petrol engine that produces approximately 91 bhp at 5500 rpm and 122 Nm at 3800-4800 rpm on its own. A synchronous AC motor with 79 bhp and 141 Nm of torque powers it, and is capable of 114 bhp when combined, they paired a hybrid powertrain with an e-CVT.
