Toyota RAV4 Spotted Undisguised in India; Expected to Launch for Rs 60 Lakh

Toyota’s premium mid-size SUV RAV4 has been spied testing several times and is expected to launch in the country soon. And now, the RAV4 test mule has been spotted again and that too without any camouflage or masking. While it was previously expected to launch in India by the end of 2021, it is most likely to be delayed till the following year. Here we have the images of the undisguised prototype which are courtesy of auto enthusiast Dhanush.

The latest RAV4 spy shots highlight the detailed external and interior elements of the SUV. The new RAV4 is based on the Toyota New Global Architecture-K (TNGA-K) platform, which is now in its fifth generation globally. This design also serves as the foundation for the Camry luxury car, which is sent to India as a completely knocked down (CKD) unit and manufactured locally at Toyota’s Bidadi facility in Karnataka.

In terms of style, the RAV4 has a low, car-like stance with a sharp and aggressive appearance. A roof-mounted spoiler, shark-fin antenna, 18-inch alloy wheels, and twin exhaust pipes are among the design features. The fifth-generation RAV4 is 4,600 mm long, 1,855 mm wide, and 1,685 mm tall. It has a 2,690mm wheelbase, which should translate into a roomy cabin.

Speaking about the interior, Toyota RAV4 has gone for a sleek dashboard with a freestanding 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment display and soft-touch materials. The inside is all-black, with a slew of features like automated climate control, a digital driver’s display, a panoramic sunroof, and wireless charging, to mention a few.

The fifth-generation RAV4 is powered by a hybrid powertrain that consists of a 2.5-litre, naturally aspirated, four-cylinder, Atkinson cycle petrol engine linked to an electric motor producing 215 horsepower. The engine is standard with a CVT automatic transmission. The electric motor is positioned on the back axle and transmits up to 80% of the torque to the rear wheels, offering e4WD.

The Toyota RAV4 will most likely be imported to the Indian market under the 2,500-unit quota, which means that it will come as a CBU and will be priced on the higher side at around Rs 60 lakh (ex-showroom), it should in many ways prove to be a more appealing showcase of Toyota’s hybrid tech than the Prius.
