Volkswagen Polo 1000cc (Petrol) Launched: Volkswagen Polo 1.0 has been launched in India for INR 5.41 lakh. This model replaces slow selling 1.2L petrol motor from the company lineup.
The price given above is for Trendline variant while Comfortline, Highline and Highline Plus are also available for INR 6.10 lakh, INR 7.01 lakh and INR 7.24 lakh respectively. Apart from these, Polo is still available with 1.5L diesel, GT TSI petrol and GT TDI diesel variants.
Volkswagen has developed this engine to get better efficiency of 18.78 kmpl while older version was good for just 16.47 kmpl. This equates to 2.31 more kilometers per liter.
The new 999cc, three cylinder engine is good for 76 HP at 6200 rpm and 95 Nm at 3000-4300 rpm. The engine comes mated to a 5-speed gearbox and weighs 18 kg less than the old version. Not just that, this engine is BS6 compliant but produced 15 Nm less torque than the 1.2L engine.
This drop in torque is quite heartbreaking as segment cars are powered by bigger engines producing around 113 Nm of torque on average. Also, the power value on those rival engines vary between 83-85 HP. Volkswagen’s focus on mileage can land Polo in trouble regarding performance comparison with others.
Volkswagen Polo with new 1.0 litre petrol engine is available in 4 variants:
