The world’s most famous carmaker, Volkswagen has launched its next sedan, the 2022 Virtus, in India today with a starting price of Rs 11.22 lakh (ex-showroom). Bookings for the sedan are already in process across the country. Interested buyers can pre-book the car through the official website or by visiting the authorised dealership.
Based on the company’s MQB AO IN platform, the Virtus is made under Volkswagen’s India 2.0 strategy. Replacing the aged Vento in the Indian car market, the all-new Virtus will lock horns with the Skoda Slavia, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Honda City and the Hyundai Verna.
Having almost similar body dimensions to the Skoda Slavia, the VW Virtus is 4561mm in length, 1752mm in width, 1507mm in height and 2651mm in wheelbase and gets ample boot space of 521-litres. Volkswagen has used GT elements to add to its sportier appearance. The 2022 Virtus boasts all LED lighting, chrome accents, a loaded front bumper and grille, an electric sunroof, 16-inch alloy wheels, and other notable features.
Offered in six lively colours, the new sedan also gets some outstanding interior features. It comes outfitted with premium upholstery, a fully digital instrument cluster and a large 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless charging, ambient lighting, automatic climate control as well as passenger safety features comprising six airbags, rear parking sensors, ABS with EBD (as standard), a tyre pressure monitoring system and many more.
As far as the powertrain and gearbox options are concerned, there are two turbo-petrol engines on offer. The first one is a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder, 999cc TSI unit that churns out 115PS and 178Nm, while the second one is a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder, 1498cc TSI unit (only offered on GT Plus badged performance line) that generates 150PS and 250Nm. In addition, the 1.0 TSI is offered with the option of a 6-speed manual gearbox or 6-speed automatic gearbox, while the 1.5 TSI comes with only a 7-speed DCT gearbox.
