According to the recent rumours circulating online, Hero MotoCorp is all set to launch a new commuter motorcycle which will be christened as Hero Hunter. Considering the poor sales performance of the brand in the past few months, Hero is now focusing on increasing its sales figure by introducing another commuter in its 110-125cc portfolio. Till date, the Hero Splendor is one of the best selling commuters from the brand.

Certain leaked patent images of the upcoming motorcycle from the Hero MotoCorp gives us a separate view of a sweeping fuel tank in addition to a Pulsar inspired round headlamp design along with a windscreen as well as a tail lamp. The fuel tank in the leaked patents features “Hunter” written over it.

In addition to giving their focus on the new commuter segment, the brand has also decided to pay heed to their all-new premium lineup which includes Xtreme 200S, 200R, Xpulse 200 and 200T, all specifically designed under the high displacement premium section for targeting a special set of customers.

If the brand decides to launch Hunter in its commuter segment in India, the motorcycle will be lined up next to the Hero Splendor and Hero Passion. Since the mandatory introduction of ABS in the bigger displacement bikes above 125cc, the brand will be launching the Hunter with a lower displacement engine and Combined Braking System (CBS) to keep the cost under check.

If and once launched in India, the Hero Hunter will compete in the market with the likes of much appreciated Honda CB Shine as well as Bajaj Platina and CT 100. We can expect the brand to launch their new commuter sometime in the next year after the implementation of the BSVI emission norms on April 1, 2020.

Hero Karizma ZMR has not yet been discontinued and it has been made clear by the brand itself. The sales report of the last 3 months claim zero units for the model but that one is typical for the Indian market and does not include the sales number posted in the export market.

According to a recent statement by the brand: “Karizma is not discontinued and continues to be a part of our portfolio. At present, we are focusing on the model in our overseas markets.”

The brand is currently focusing on their new 200cc products for India while products like Karizma ZMR, Achiever 150, and Xtreme 150 are being sold worldwide in developing markets where ABS is not yet mandatory for 125cc+ bikes. The most probable condition for Karizma’s relaunch in India would be an upgrade as the current-gen design is not good enough to compete with the rest of the fully-faired bikes available in the Indian market.

Current-Gen Hero Karizma ZMR
Current-Gen Hero Karizma ZMR

Hero Karizma nameplate carries a legacy with itself as many years back in time, it was the undefeated champion with more power than any other option in its segment. The downfall of Karizma gave the Bajaj Pulsar 220F a clear advantage and soon after the drop of Karizma charm, the competitor gained almost 5000+ units in sales every month.

The official confirmation of not leaving Karizma out of the league also means that the brand is working on upgrades in terms of design and performance. The relaunch of Karizma may not let them bring the 220cc engine to India as that will require making the motor BS6-compliant in the coming months. Hero MotoCorp can use a bigger 300cc engine to take the fight a few segments up or keep the profile low with a sporty 200cc model under the Karizma name.

The chances of an indirect Apache RR 310 rival are more as the 300cc segment is growing at the fastest possible rate among all the single-cylinder motorcycles of India. Hero MotoCorp is expected to reveal the Karizma 300 at the Auto Expo in February 2020.

Dreams of owning a Suzuki Hayabusa, even when you have got Hero Xtreme presently on your side, will now come true much earlier than your thought. Confused? Here’s the full deal. You can get your Hero Xtreme converted to a Suzuki Hayabusa through GM Customs of Delhi. The changes you see here are purely visual as no change was made to the engine of this motorcycle. Pure attention to detail is seen on this Hayabusa replica as the stock motorcycle is equipped with twin shocks while this one is equipped with Hayabusa style swing-arm with a rear monoshock.

Hero Xtreme Modified Into Suzuki Hayabusa

Front of the motorcycle comes with dual disc brakes while it cannot be confirmed that the second one is working or not. As the body hides much of the original stuff, GM Customs have used standard telescopic forks for suspension duties. Body lines are exactly the same as one would see on a stock Hayabusa. One can see the Hayabusa style instrument console and clip-on handlebars on this impressive replica. The tyres used here are huge and almost the same as one seen on Hayabusa. The modification cost is still unknown but one can expect a huge amount for this change.

Hero Xtreme Modified Into Suzuki Hayabusa

Stock Suzuki Hayabusa is powered by a 1340cc, four-cylinder engine producing 197 BHP at 9500 rpm and 155 Nm at 7200 rpm. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox. On the other hand, the motorcycle used as a donor, Hero Xtreme in this case, is powered by a 149cc, single cylinder engine producing 15.6 BHP at 8500 rpm and 13.5 Nm at 7000 rpm. This raises a doubt that how will the small engine from Hero pull such heavy components of Suzuki Hayabusa. Even if we consider the use of lightest possible parts, this replica could weigh around 200kg.

Hero MotoCorp is the first Indian brand to receive the ICAT BS6-certification for its Splendor iSmart, taking over the Honda’s plan of launching the first BS6-compliant 2-wheeler in India that they teased a few days back. The motorcycle that we’re considering here has been completely designed in Jaipur at the Center of Innovation and Technology (CIT).

Even the International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT) has congratulated Hero to be the first mass-market brand to get BS6-certification in the motorcycle segment. Hero Motocorp has taken the leap here as most brands are planning to have one prototype that they can claim to be BS6-compliant and then enter the production to keep the promise intact.

Hero Splendor iSmart
Hero Splendor iSmart

Honda 2-Wheelers and Hero MotoCorp are tight-lipped about the performance of their BS6-Compliant 2-wheeler. Hero Motocorp is here to claim some extraordinary figures in terms of performance and fuel consumption. The brand is currently claiming around 105 kph for their iSmart Splendor model.

It is very obvious that most products will lose their best-selling status and above all, Hero bikes will enter the league where products like TVS Sport and Honda Dream are ready to take on the list with their obvious options with similar output and die-hard fan-following.

India's First BS6-Compliant Motorcycle
Hero Splendor Becomes India’s First BS6-Compliant 2-Wheeler

Dinesh Tyagi, Director – ICAT said: “We congratulate Hero MotoCorp for becoming the country’s first two-wheeler manufacturer to get the BS-VI certification. The Type Approval Certificate was issued to the Company’s Splendor iSmart motorcycle that has been developed and manufactured indigenously by Hero MotoCorp. Last year ICAT issued the country’s first approval for BS-VI norms for Heavy Commercial Vehicle (HCV) segment also. The BS-VI emission standards are much more elaborate in their scope and integrate substantial changes to existing emission standards ensuring cleaner products to the consumer.”

Hero MotoCorp is all set to launch Splendor+ 25 Years Special Edition as they are celebrating 25 years of its iconic Splendor brand. The honorary model costs INR 55,856 (ex-showroom, Jamshedpur) and has started to arrive at the dealerships. In comparison, the standard model of the Splendor+ retails at INR 54,856, which means that the brand is charging INR 1000 extra for the special edition model.

Talking about the changes, the Splendor+ 25 Years Special Edition comes with attractive graphics and 3D emblems across the body. Its front visor features a ‘Special Edition’ sticker along with new graphics on either side.

The fuel tank carries a 3D Hero logo, while the side panels feature ‘Splendor+’ branding with ‘25 Years Special Edition’ stickers. An i3S (Idle Start Stop System) sticker is there at the rear panel. A USB charger has also been installed on the handlebar, and it has a lid to cover the USB port to keep it safe in the rainy weather.

Mechanically, the Hero Splendor+ 25 Years Special Edition has the same engine specifications as the regular model. It is powered by a 97.2cc air-cooled, single cylinder OHC motor that would deliver 8.36 HP of maximum power at 8000 rpm and 8.05 Nm of peak torque at 5000 rpm. The engine would come mated to a four-speed gearbox.

The bike will come featured with a kick and self-start system. For Braking performance, it has got 130mm drum brakes on both wheels while its safety net includes Hero MotoCorp’s Integrated Braking System (IBS) as standard.

Alike the regular model, this special edition will also come equipped with alloy wheels, but with a black finish for distinctive styling. For suspension duties, it has telescopic hydraulic forks at front and swing arm with 5-step adjustable hydraulic shock absorbers at the rear. Hero MotoCorp is expected to officially launch the Splendor+ 25 Years Special Edition in the coming days.

Suzuki Gixxer SF 150 vs Hero Xtreme 200S (Quick Comparison): Suzuki Gixxer SF 150 is priced at INR 1.10 lakh, making it more expensive than the full-faired Hero Xtreme 200S by a considerable margin. The former comes with an air-cooled 154.9cc engine while the latter can be had with a bigger 199.6cc motor and a value-for-money price tag of INR 98,500. The power difference between both the bikes is huge enough to claim the Xtreme as the powerful one in no time.

Suzuki Gixxer SF 150

The weight difference is also negligible when considering the fact that the 200S produces 4.3 HP of more power. Both the engines are available with a 5-speed gearbox and thus, highway riding will feel great at double-digit speeds than the triple-digit speed riding fun of the bigger bikes. Here is a quick comparison between the Suzuki Gixxer SF 150 and Hero Xtreme 200S.

The two new Hero scooters that were much-awaited by the gearless riding fans are now officially available in India. Hero Pleasure Plus has been launched at INR 47,300 for the steel wheel variant and INR 49,300 for the alloy wheel variant. On the other hand, the powerful Maestro Edge 125 is available in three different variants, starting from INR 58,500 and going all the way up to INR 62,700. Not just that, the fuel injected variant of the scooter is a first-of-its-kind option for the country as not even the premium Vespa scooters are available with fuel injection in India.

Hero Pleasure Plus

Hero Pleasure Plus comes without the option of a disc brake while the top two variants of the Maestro Edge 125 are available with a front disc brake. The 110.9cc, single cylinder engine on the new Pleasure Plus is good for 8.1 HP and 8.7 Nm. The values are impressive for a scooter that weighs just 101kg and comparatively, the last-gen Pleasure feels out of power for sure. The new model is just INR 2200 expensive than the old Pleasure and getting the better 110cc engine definitely brings an advantage. The design lines also have a different story to narrate for the new scooters.

The premium feel comes from the well-shaped headlights, proportional body design and also, the vibrant colour combinations seen on the new Hero scooters. Maestro Edge 125 comes with 9.2 HP and 10.2 Nm of output, making it the most happening product for this price point with alloy wheels as standard. The Pleasure Plus rivals Honda Activa 5G and TVS Jupiter in the country while the 125cc Maestro Edge will take on the new Suzuki Access 125 and the Honda Grazia 125. TVS Ntorq 125 is also one rival but, the preference is always given to commuter-friendly design by the Indian buyers.
