Hero Xtreme recently registered 116% sales growth in India in November 2018. Those looking for a perfect street machine will love to have this excellent value for money 200cc motorcycle at INR 89,900 (ex-showroom). Hero seems to plan their arrival in style as one can choose between 5 attractive shades: Heavy Grey with Orange, Panther Black with Force Silver, Techno Blue, Sports Red, and Black with Sports Red. Here are 7 reasons to buy the Hero Xtreme 200R Street Fighter.

7 Reasons to Buy Hero Xtreme 200R

1) Excellent Value for Money

Looking for a 200cc motorcycle but tight on budget? Hero MotoCorp is here to help with their extraordinary pricing strategy. You can buy the new Hero Xtreme 200R for INR 89,900 (ex-showroom). This price undercuts popular 150cc motorcycles (Honda CB Hornet ABS & Suzuki Gixxer ABS) by a considerable margin.

2) Standard Single Channel ABS

The INR 89,900 price tag brings a lot more than just the 200cc engine. Buyers will get a single channel ABS unit for the front wheel as standard. For comparison, Bajaj Pulsar NS200 offers ABS variant in India for INR 1.12 lakh. The considerable INR 22,000 worth difference is more than anyone could expect for two bikes with similar engine size.

3) Sporty Rear Monoshock

Every bike from Hero MotoCorp came with dual shocks for the rear wheel till date. Xtreme 200R is the first one to bring monoshock into their lineup, facilitating better than ever handling and, an effective rear end design. The unit is 7-step adjustable, offering riders with an option to set the level of stiffness for street or highway use.

4) Torque-Rich Engine

Hero MotoCorp is using a torque-happy 199.6cc, air cooled and carburettor fed engine on Xtreme 200R. The setup is good for 18.4 HP at 8000 rpm and 17.1 Nm at 6500 rpm. The engine comes mated to a 5-speed gearbox. When considering a wet weight of 148 kg, the power will definitely bring thrills to your city ride. The Venturi carburettor with 32mm diameter guarantees a right mixture of performance and economy.

5) Sporty Instrument Console

Hero Xtreme 200R comes with an analogue-digital instrument console that offers an almost entire set of values like service reminder, digital clock, trip meter, fuel gauge and an analogue tachometer. One can spot ABS light, indicator light, side stand indicator and other warning symbols in a dedicated area.

6) Wide Tyres

Hero MotoCorp was criticized for using inferior parts on most of their models. Even their Karizma was equipped with tires that are offered on commuter bikes. This time, they have worked hard on small details and got themselves some praiseworthy parts. The front tire on Xtreme 200R measures 100/80-17 while the rear is a radial unit measuring 130/70-R17. This guarantees better grip levels than ever.

7) Practical Dimensions

Hero Xtreme 200R comes with 795mm seat height, 165mm ground clearance and 1338mm of wheelbase. It measures 2062mm in length, 778m in width and 1072mm in height. An average built person could easily handle this motorcycle in toughest city traffic with full feet touching the ground on all occasions. Also, scrapping the underbelly section may not be a thing worth worrying.

Must-Know Facts About 200cc Hero XPulse: With the official images for the Hero XPulse 200 released, some of the facts about the upcoming adventure bike from the world’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer have become clearer while some new facts have come to light as well. This upcoming bike will be the successor to the Impulse 150 which, even though was a hit in the Indian market, has been discontinued in the country.

The sales of the Impulse 150 was extremely low due to the underpowered engine of the bike. Hero has sought to overcome this problem by bringing in their all-new 200cc engine powered bike which is likely to be priced under the Rs 1 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) mark when launched. Here are 5 quick facts about the 200cc Hero xPulse.

5 Quick Facts About 200cc Hero XPulse

1) Design & Style: The Hero XPulse 200 features a tall stance which stands out. Unlike most bikes, it has a large front wheel, and the headlamp is a classic round-shaped one and from the official images, it is clear that it would come equipped with LED DRLs. There is a luggage rack on the rear end of the Hero XPulse 200 for long-distance touring. The bike will feature a digital instrument cluster along with an engine kill switch.

2) Safety: The upcoming bike from Hero will possess a windscreen upfront and knuckle guards on the handlebars to protect the rider in case of a fall. For the lovers of off-roading, there is an added engine bash plate to protect the oil sump. Although there are disc brakes on both ends, it will also feature a single-channel ABS (Anti-Lock Braking System).

3) Engine and Transmission: The Hero XPulse 200 will have a 200cc single-cylinder air-cooled fuel-injected engine which will allow the bike to have a maximum power of 18.4 HP and a maximum torque figure of 17.1 Nm. This engine will be coupled with a 5-speed transmission. The engine on the XPulse 200 will be tuned differently from the one that will be there on the Xtreme 200R.

4) Wheels and Suspension: The upcoming bike will come equipped with a long-travel suspension with 190mm travel for the telescopic forks and a 21-inch wheel on the front end. The rear end of the bike will feature a long-travel suspension with 180mm travel for the monoshock suspension and a 19-inch rear wheel. This would result in an excellent ground clearance of 220mm.

5) Expected Price & Key Rivals: Hero xPulse 200 is expected to be priced around INR 1 lakh (ex-showroom) and at this price point, the bike has no direct rivals. The closest possible adventure bike in terms of price is Royal Enfield Himalayan @ INR 1.79 Lakh.

Latest Update: Hero Motocorp has also made the new xPulse 200T official along with the regular adventure version. The new variant will be available with alloy wheels, lower placed exhaust, and a different seat. The brand is expected to place the spoke wheel xPulse at a higher point as the T variant comes with regular tires in comparison to the thick tread unit on the adventure version. Hero xPulse and xPulse 200T are expected to launch in India by April 2019.

The comeback of Hero Xtreme brand name is nothing than a miracle for the Indian brand. All the credit goes to Xtreme 200R as buyers can get an impressive 200cc machine in the price segment of ABS-equipped 150cc bikes in India. Hero Xtreme scored 3656 units last month and got 116% of an increase in the monthly sales figure in comparison to 1693 units in November 2017. The improvement is seen at such a time when popular motorcycles are struggling to retain their existing numbers in India. Hero Karizma just scored 4 units while Achiever and Glamour also had a similar downfall like most other mass market brands.

Hero Xtreme 200R
Hero Xtreme 200R

Hero Xtreme is available with a 199.6cc, single cylinder engine producing maximum power of 18.4 HP and 17.1 Nm of torque. Those looking for an affordable version can get their hands on the 149.2cc version, producing 15.6 HP and 13.5 Nm. However, the price difference is not that justified as the former comes with ABS and more power and demands less than INR 8,000 in comparison to the 150cc Xtreme. Hero Motocorp is India’s largest selling mass-market brand and every new product from their side comes with value for money tag attached with it from the first day of existence.

Hero Karizma ZMR is showing no signs of a comeback as sales report for November 2018 listed the same among the worst selling products with just 4 units registered during the 30-day period. In comparison to the Karizma, Bajaj Pulsar 220F registered 6933 units in the month of November. Hero Karizma is awaiting the third generation update as the present model is designed on the lines of EBR styling. The full faired design looks more like a track-specific motorcycle from the front while rear section proves as the weak point for the Karizma. The first generation model was great in terms of design.

Karizma ZMR Sales Report

  • May 2018 – 17 units
  • June 2018 – 12 units
  • July 2018 – 14 units
  • August 2018 – 10 units
  • September 2018 – 11 units
  • October 2018  – 0 units
  • November 2018 – 4 units
  • Combined (May-Nov): 68 units
2018 Hero Karizma ZMR
Hero Karizma ZMR V2 Dual-Tone Edition

Karizma ZMR registered a total of just 68 units from the day it was relaunched in India. The engine still proves its worth with stress-free riding in all conditions. October 2018 was the worst month from Karizma as the score went down to zero in that month. The comeback is the worst step from Hero and thus, they need to reconsider their strategy for selling a flagship model. The most powerful motorcycle may get an engine switch on the third generation model, with their 200cc engine getting a good response from the buyers. Also, the average of selling less than 10 units every month is worst for the India’s No.1 brand in terms of sales volume.

Hero Motocorp has showcased many impressive 2-wheeler concepts in the last few years at various auto shows. Most of them are available in their production versions while these five Hero concepts are not yet ready to enter production. Some of them were unfortunately scrapped from the upcoming list while others are yet to see daylight with watered down aesthetics and production friendly components.

Top 5 Most Talked-About Hero Concepts

1) Hero XF3R

Hero XF3R
Hero XF3R

The most recent product from all others, Hero XF3R was revealed at the Auto Expo 2016. Being a typical streetfighter, the motorcycle flaunts extended fuel tank shrouds, light tail section and raised exhaust on the right side. The front USD forks, all-digital console and exposed frame can make Hero XF3R a direct rival to BMW G310R, upcoming TVS streetfighter and the KTM 390 Duke.

2) Hero ZIR 150

Hero ZIR 150

The beautifully designed scooter is waiting for its official unveil from quite a long time. It made the global debut at Auto Expo 2014. The massive panels, dual headlight design, extended transparent visor and all other features make ZIR 150 a perfect commuting option. The elements on ZIR challenges the likes of Suzuki Burgman Street but the bigger engine will help it claim a unique spot.

3) Hero HX250R

Hero HX250R
Hero HX250R

Hero HX250R was officially unveiled in 2014. The brand has already confirmed that a quarter-litre with this name won’t enter India but sharing the design elements with a new 200cc motorcycle will help them create the new Karizma 200. HX250R comes with dual headlight design and Karizma-inspired tail section with thinner panels. It can be the perfect recipe for the upcoming full-faired Hero sports bike.

4) Hero Hastur 620

Hero Hastur 620

Hastur street fighter was also unveiled at the Auto Expo in 2014. It is the most powerful Hero motorcycle of all time. The 620cc, twin cylinder engine on the concept motorcycle is good for 80 PS of maximum power at 9600 rpm, with 72 NM of maximum torque at 7750 rpm. In its production form, Hastur could have acted as a Ducati Monster 797 and Kawasaki Z650 rival. Most India brands are breaking barriers to reach new displacement heights these days.

5) Hero RNT Diesel

The first-ever diesel product of its kind, RNT was seen as a revolution for last point rural transport. The 150cc diesel engine was good for 13.5 BHP and 35 Nm of torque. The wet weight of 136 kg and enough space to load certain goods made it a practical option. The vehicle claims around 70 kph of top speed.

If a recent report is to be believed, Hero Karizma 200 can soon turn into a reality. The brand had earlier announced that the 200cc platform used under the Xtreme 200R will result in a total of four motorcycles. The upcoming launch of xPulse 200 and xPulse 200T still leaves one slot empty for the brand, pointing right towards the fully-faired Karizma 200 with a potential to rival both Bajaj Pulsar 220F and RS 200 in its segment. Hero has not yet revealed any official plans for this development but sharing the design lines with now-extinct HX250R can help them save a lot on design and equipment development.

Hero HX250R Prototype
Hero HX250R Prototype

The fully-faired motorcycle with Karizma 200 moniker has more chances of being a hit product than the existing Karizma ZMR V2 model. The first reason is the reduction in cost as Suzuki Gixxer and Gixxer SF also carry a price difference of around INR 9000 between them. Hero MotoCorp can keep the new model safely around INR 1 lakh and retail the same against more modern options. If they plan to add fuel injection to the setup, the cost will further rise by a considerable margin. They even charge INR 4200 for fuel injection in the new Glamour.

Current Generation Hero Karizma ZMR
Current Generation Hero Karizma ZMR

This still keeps a lot of potential for the Karizma 200. The old 220cc engine may not even make it to the BS6 league of bikes while the modern 199cc motor has been designed by keeping the upcoming emission norms in mind. The use of fuel injection on Karizma 200 will add the much-needed refinement in a lightweight faired motorcycle. Also, the addition of ABS to the package, that too without taking the price tag into some other dimension, will make the new Karizma 200 more affordable than Pulsar 220F by INR 10,000. The potential for this product is definitely higher than all other sportbikes in the lineup.

Hero Xtreme Modified Into Suzuki Hayabusa: Dreams of owning a Suzuki Hayabusa, even when you have got Hero Xtreme presently on your side, will now come true much earlier than your thought. Confused? Here’s the full deal. You can get your Hero Xtreme converted to a Suzuki Hayabusa through GM Customs of Delhi. The changes you see here are purely visual as no change was made to the engine of this motorcycle. Pure attention to detail is seen on this Hayabusa replica as stock motorcycle is equipped with a twin shocks while this one is equipped with Hayabusa style swing-arm with a rear monoshock.

Hero Xtreme Modified Into Suzuki Hayabusa

Front of the motorcycle comes with dual disc brake while it cannot be confirmed that the second one is working or not. As the body hides much of the original stuff, they have used standard telescopic forks for suspension duties. Body lines are exactly the same as one would see on a stock Hayabusa. One can see the Hayabusa style instrument console and clip on handlebars on this impressive replica. The tyres used here are huge and almost the same as one seen on Hayabusa. The modification cost is still unknown but one can expect a huge amount for this change.

Hero Xtreme Modified Into Suzuki Hayabusa

Stock Suzuki Hayabusa is powered by a 1340cc, four cylinder engine producing 197 BHP at 9500 rpm and 155 Nm at 7200 rpm. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox. On the other hand, the motorcycle used as a donor, Hero Xtreme in this case, is powered by a 149cc, single cylinder engine producing 15.6 BHP at 8500 rpm and 13.5 Nm at 7000 rpm. This raises a doubt that how will the small engine from Hero pull such heavy components of Suzuki Hayabusa. Even if we consider the use of lightest possible parts, this replica could weigh around 200 kg.

Hero Karizma ZMR got zero buyers in October 2018, hinting for the need of permanent discontinuation of the second generation motorcycle. Even premium motorcycle segment registered few units for individual products in the same month. Reintroduced with a BS4-compliant engine, Hero Karizma was expected to fetch numbers close to Honda CBR250R.

As Honda is also pushing their quarter-liter machine for no reason, it’s high time for brands to know that their products have aged well. The need for an upgrade is pretty visible in Karizma and CBR250R as both carry the same design as seen in their launch in 2014 and 2011 respectively.

The Karizma was a bestseller in its first generation design, notably for the R variant instead of the ZMR. Even the first generation R and ZMR happened to be the flagship performance products with Pulsar 220F on the closest edge and CBR250R on the upper side.

The influence of EBR design for the next-generation models proved fatal for the brand and left them struggling with 100-125cc commuters till date. Fortunately, Hero Xtreme 200R is gaining traction among rivals and with equal hope, Hero MotoCorp is almost ready with the new xPulse. The 200cc platform is not just affordable, but also equally challenging for the rivals.

Hero XPulse 200 and XPulse 200T were recently spotted in India carrying red test plates and production ready equipment. The T moniker stands for touring, with these three examples further clearing the difference between both the variants. The XPulse 200T is seen here in gloss red and matt grey shade while standard XPulse 200 is available with plain black shade in the images. Hero MotoCorp will definitely bring more shades for the touring model while the off-road specific XPulse 200 could support just the black shade. Both the variants share the same frame and basic design language.

Hero XPulse 200T comes with black alloy wheels, street tires and two different versions of exhausts, both being lower mounted for regular use. The rear grab rail features bag holding capability on both the models. XPulse 200 comes with spoke wheels, off-road specific tires and high mounted exhaust that will stay safe during off-road riding. Apart from the difference in rubber, these two can have different levels of suspension travel for better differentiation. The front round headlight and rear flat LED tail light also stay similar between both the bikes. The all-digital console is expected to offer class-leading connectivity options for ease of use during long distance travels.

Another difference is seen through covers of the front suspension on XPulse 200, with fender used here looking similar to typical off-road bikes. A close look will also reveal the engine protector that stays exclusive to the off-road variant. All these parts may be available as an accessory with the xPulse 200T but stock fitted exhaust and tires offer better practicality than spending more on the visual enhancement of the motorcycle. Hero MotoCorp is expected to use a powerful 199.6cc, single-cylinder engine with different state of tune in comparison to the Xtreme 200R. The front brake ABS stays standard on all variants while price could start from INR 1 lakh. Hero XPulse series is expected to launch in India in March 2019.
