As per the latest details available, Royal Enfield Bullet Trials will launch in India on March 26-27, 2019. The most-awaited Bullet variant for those who are looking into the adventure segment, Trials will be available with a raised exhaust, single seat and a rear carrier that is beneficial for those who carry a single bag with them. This way, they can save on the additional cost that goes into the panniers and welcome rough roads with more confidence with the dual purpose tires and additional ground clearance. The biggest highlight of the Royal Enfield Trials is the use of a coloured frame and rubber covers for the front suspension. The first official teaser is out from the brand.

The few leaked images of the motorcycles show that the brand has used the same frame shade as Desert Storm on the 500cc model while the 350cc variant features a different red frame that has not been seen on any model till date. The use of chrome and other important accessories also clears that Royal Enfield is bringing the fight to the recently introduced Jawa 42 for sure. The 346cc and 499cc engine stay the same as the stock version, producing 28 Nm and 41.3 Nm from the motorcycles. The front and rear disc brake will be available with 2-channel ABS as standard like all other options.

A recent video that surfaced on the Facebook page of Royal Enfield Riders Club has once again raised the issue of inferior quality components used by the accessory manufacturing brands in India. The owner of this Royal Enfield Classic was riding the motorcycle on a local road when the front alloy wheel broke without any visible sign of impact. The sudden event resulted in a fall and the rider was lucky as nothing was speeding behind him on the road. As he stands after the fall, the entire spoke section of the alloy wheel was missing from the motorcycle, which in fact, was seen racing ahead during the recording of the fall.

Video Source: Royal Enfield Riders Club

The rider was wearing partial protection at the moment as the video shows the gloves on his hands. The slipper that he was wearing went flying in the air, clearing the fact that riding a motorcycle with tight footwear is a safer alternative than any loose-fitting option. Well, the idea of using alloy wheels in Royal Enfield or any other motorcycle brand is to use tubeless tires for avoiding sudden deflation. Still, the quality of these moving parts matters a lot more than styling and puncture-avoidance. The impact of braking and sudden acceleration on the suspension is transferred to the alloy wheels and thus, a good quality one can only hold this amount of stress.

Low-Quality Alloy Wheels
Here’s Why You Should Never Buy Low-Quality Alloy Wheels for Your Bike

The stock alloy wheels are tested for lakhs of kilometres before using them in any motorcycle from any random brand. On the other side, there are only a few reputed brands for aftermarket alloy wheels in India. The low-quality copies of these products are sold by a large number of stores around the country for more profits and thus, risks the life of riders. The riders are suggested to go for company-approved alloy wheels that are available with warranty and pass through the tests that are mandatory before production. The cheap alternatives are worth nothing as they can bring high amounts of damage when riding at high speed.

Royal Enfield recently launched the new Thunderbird 350X ABS and 500X ABS in India for INR 1.63 lakh and INR 2.13 lakh respectively. Both the prices are ex-showroom Delhi. The model takes inspiration from certain custom-made motorcycles in India. Here are 10 quick facts about the new Royal Enfield Thunderbird X series.

10 Quick Facts About Thunderbird X Series

1) Alloy Wheels: For the first time in Royal Enfield’s history, they offered a model with alloy wheels as stock. Thunderbird X comes with matching 9-spoke black alloy wheels that look amazing on its body. All other models in the company lineup are either offered with chrome or black spoke rims.

Thunderbird X is the 1st Royal Enfield Series to Get Tubeless Tyres & Alloy Wheels As Standard

2) Tubeless Tyres: As spoke rims from Royal Enfield does not support the tubeless tyres, Thunderbird X becomes the first motorcycle to offer tubeless tyres as standard. Most buyers used to switch from spoke to alloy and then get the tubeless tyres for their Royal Enfield motorcycles. But now RE will offer it as standard on the new 350X and 500X.

3) Matt Black Exhaust: Both the Thunderbird X series models are equipped with a matte black engine as standard. Chrome exhaust looked excellent but still, the best part came with Thunderbird X that brought Matt Black exhaust on both the 350X and 500X. It forms a unity with the engine and dissolves perfectly in the black themed lower half.

4) New Seat: The divided seat on standard Thunderbird makes way for this beautifully crafted single seat on Thunderbird X. It is perfectly chiselled for a comfortable riding experience and looks well padded at places that hold the rider and pillion intact in tough riding conditions.

5) New Handlebar: Royal Enfield has made the Thunderbird X series by keeping city rides in mind. It comes with a different handlebar that is not as high as the standard model. It also seems wider than before for the typical bobber feel from once a cruiser motorcycle.

6) No Pillion Backrest: As short rides do not need the level of comfort that one demands from a long one, Royal Enfield Thunderbird X comes without a pillion backrest. This makes hopping on the rear seat an easier task than the standard Thunderbird model. Also, the rear now looks completely different.

7) Bright Shades: Here is something that can make fans go crazy for this motorcycle. Royal Enfield Thunderbird 500X is available in the Yellow and Blue shade while Thunderbird 350X comes in Red and White shade. The available shades are seen just on the fuel tank as Redditch edition while all other panels are kept Black as standard.

8) Two Engine Options: The powerful 350cc and 500cc motors are retained from the standard Thunderbird series for the motorcycle. This makes the Thunderbird 350X good for 19.8 BHP and 28 Nm of torque. On the other hand, Thunderbird 500X will produce 27.2 BHP and 41.3 Nm of massive torque. Both engines are mated to a 5-speed gearbox.

Thunderbird X Front 3-Quarter

9) Dual-Channel ABS: Thunderbird X series comes with dual-channel ABS as standard, making them one among the safer-than-ever Royal Enfield bikes. The price gap of INR 50,000 between both the models brings a bigger engine with fuel injection to the buyers while everything else remains identical for both bikes.

Thunderbird X Rear 3-Quarter

10) Impressive Pricing: Royal Enfield Thunderbird 350X comes for INR 1.63 lakh. The real math came after subtracting the cost of rear backrest and tubes from the motorcycle and adding the alloy wheel cost on top. Thunderbird 500X costs INR 2.13 lakh. The former comes out as a value for money machine while the 500X commands exclusivity.

Royal Enfield Bobber 838 (Concept KX) is the most powerful and influential design from the Indian brand after their reincarnation in the country. As most buyers are familiar with round headlights and basic fuel tank designs that stay more or less common on all bikes, the innovative designing on the Bobber 838 made it eye candy for the masses. Bobber 838 (Concept KX) made its world debut at the EICMA last year in November 2018. For those who have not yet been familiar with the concept, here are 7 must know facts for the Royal Enfield Bobber 838.

7 Must-Know Facts About the Royal Enfield Bobber 838

1) Based on Royal Enfield KX 1140 – The paint scheme and design lines are based on the vintage KX 1140 from the brand, pushing the same low seat and huge tire combination into the 21st-century concept. The selection of the engine casing and modern-looking girder forks has also been made by keeping KX 1140 in mind at all times.

2) First Modern V-Twin RE Engine – The 838cc engine with V-Twin layout features 80mm of bore and 83.8mm of stroke for the perfect torque production. Royal Enfield can tune the engine for any value under 100 HP as this threshold is achieved by modern liter-class cruiser engines. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox.

3) Premium Components – Bobber 838 comes with single-sided swingarm, premium brake callipers from ByBre and dual tone alloy wheels with machine-finished 7×2 spoke layout. The fenders are chopped while front comes with LED headlight with daytime running lights. The twin black exhausts complete the package.

4) All-Digital Console – The motorcycle comes with an all-digital console with smartphone integration and other features like Bluetooth, GPS, and coloured display. The display shows green section for the 10,000 rpm limit while in the production version, the tachometer could go missing. The Bobber 838 has a gear indicator over the speedometer section.

5) Dimensions – Royal Enfield offers massive 2160mm of length, 778mm of width and low 998mm of height for the Bobber 838. The seat height is practical at 760mm while the low handlebar position confirms that every rider could enjoy the feel out of the motorcycle. The long 1530mm of wheelbase is available on the concept.

6) Expected Launch Date – Bobber 838 is expected to launch in 2021 as the first production version is expected to be unveiled at the Auto Expo 2020. The motorcycle seen here is a non-working prototype and thus, changing parts won’t be a big step on the production version.

7) Expected Ex-Showroom Price – The price for the upcoming Bobber 838 will fall around INR 5 lakh, keeping in mind how Royal Enfield undercuts the rivals in the 650cc segment by almost half the pricing. The highlighted parts will be skipped if this tag is taken as a target.

Royal Enfield Classic 350 ABS has been launched in India for INR 1.53 lakh (Ex-Delhi). The motorcycle marks the completion of ABS upgrade in the Classic series, leaving all four variants for the 350 and five variants for the 500cc model with dual channel ABS.

The price hike was minimal on the base variant, clearing the fact that Royal Enfield wishes to keep the base variant approx INR 10,000 lower than the Signals Edition. The latter started the ABS revolution among the Classic series bikes and even got stuck in a controversy with Pegasus Edition owners for similar badging and finish.

Classic 350 is powered by a 346cc, single cylinder engine, producing 20 HP at 5250 rpm and 28 Nm at 4000 rpm. The engine comes mated to a 5-speed gearbox. The same engine is working under the frame of Bullet and Thunderbird series, producing exactly similar output and leaving the seating position different on all three of them.

The highest selling model is still the Classic 350 but after the inclusion of ABS, the prices of Thunderbird and Classic series does not have that huge gap as before, helping the former gain some number from those who need higher fuel carrying capacity.

The motorcycle comes without a tachometer and thus, helps the Thunderbird gain some traction among the fans. Classic 350 Gunmetal Grey is available INR 1.55 lakh while Classic 350 Signals can be bought for INR 1.63 lakh. The Redditch edition is priced at the same point as the regular Classic 350 variant at INR 1.53 lakh.

Royal Enfield is again stuck with an unfortunate strike over the wage hike negotiations and change in the status of employment for a section of workers. The last strike was effective for 50 days and brought a production loss of 28,000 units to the brand. This time, the company has announced that a small number of workers illegally went on a strike at the Oragadam facility. However, the effect of the strike on production is unknown at the moment. The last strike happened before the launch of 650 Twins and this time, the effect could go straight on the waiting period of their premium offerings.

The rising demand for the 650 Twins and the ongoing strike can further impact the company’s production capacity in the coming days. Royal Enfield is India’s sixth largest brand by volume and every unit counts toward their huge 5-digit monthly production number. It is yet to be seen how the brand deals with the ongoing strike as the sensitive matter could get worse with one wrong decision by the management.

In a filing to the national stock exchange, Eicher Motors, the parent company of the motorcycle maker said, “Royal Enfield remains deeply committed, as always in the past, to maintain respectful relationships with all employees. We believe an engaged workforce and cordial industrial relations, create a culture of excellence where all employees are proud of their contributions to the organisation. It is unfortunate that a certain section of our workforce has resorted to an illegal strike at our Oragadam plant in Chennai despite the company’s best efforts and positive intentions. We have been working closely with our workforce and have undertaken various constructive and confidence-building initiatives.”

“We are focused on resolving all issues in an amicable manner while keeping the best interests of the organization and our workforce in mind,” the company added in the statement.
