Royal Enfield is struggling to keep up with their own legacy, registering a downfall in sales when compared to the iconic sales number of 2018. The brand is planning to open 350 studio outlets with a primary focus on the rural market. The 12-20 units per month of sales target, along with just 500 sq.ft of the total area will help new partners with a decent amount of capital join the RE family. The 225 sq.ft of the area will be dedicated to the display space while remaining will go into the service and spares section. The brand currently has 825 dealers in India and 42 international stores.

The number of dealerships is expected to touch the 1100 mark by the end of this year. The brand has never tried entering the rural market with a dedicated studio outlet plan and unlike other brands, they have a dedicated fan following across the rural areas of the country. The one-sixth size will bring down the operational cost, keeping the initial real estate investment low and still, allow a decent number of product displays. As this decade will soon come to an end, the brand is strengthening itself for the next 10-year term that will be full of surprises.

The brand will first shift from BS4 to BS6 during the next few months and above all, introduce better versions of their own bikes. They could phase out the 499cc engine in favour of the 648cc motor as the primary sales-driving part will still be the 346cc engine. Breaking the 350cc barrier will bring more taxes to them and thus, future depends upon two engine segments for sure. The Himalayan could shift to the bigger 648cc platform while Bullet, Classic, and Thunderbird names would rule the 350cc segment. The studio outlets may focus on these three motorcycles initially.

The loud & illegal Royal Enfield exhausts are under the scanner of law and order enforcement agencies. Those who are still thinking of an escape route, the recent step by Karnataka Police is another strict warning to keep those annoying things away from the public roads.

The exciting thing this time is that the traffic police called a JCB to have the honour of crushing the illegal exhausts in front of their owners. The video also shows a large number of RE bikes parked on the occasion with no exhaust attached to them. The motorcycles have been confiscated for violating the traffic rules and thus, bringing the right exhaust and paying the fine will only let them see the roads again.

Video: Royal Enfield Exhausts Crushed by JCB

Royal Enfield has worked hard from the last few years to reduce every bit of unpleasant noise from the exhaust system. The stock exhaust note is very satisfying, feeling more like a mini version of the premium cruisers and retro-modern bikes. However, when the dB killers are removed from the stock unit, the sound becomes different and louder than the normal tone.

The people who completely change the exhaust system of their motorcycle generally have two options available in the market. Either they can have an exhaust of a trusted brand with exhaust noise under the limit or they can just buy an example that is loud enough to make their motorcycle more noticeable.

Royal Enfield exhausts are carrying well-tested filters to keep the emissions under check at all times but when it comes to aftermarket units, they are designed to make noise and ignore all the real tasks that an exhaust system has to perform on a motorcycle.

The brand is currently working on a BS6-compliant engine-exhaust setup that was seen on the test mule of 2020 Classic series motorcycle. If you are still riding with a custom exhaust that is louder than what the law permits, do replace the same with a gentle one to keep the surroundings happy and safe at all times.

Royal Enfield UK and Bali-based Smoked Garage are here with an exclusively built Himalayan named SG-411. The number in this name represents the engine displacement of this beautiful machine while SG is the abbreviation for Smoked Garage. The powerful motorcycle carries a lot of potential for modification, starting with its massive stance and segment-leading wheel travel.

The frame has been modified to handle the exclusively placed mono-shock and custom panels. The fuel tank extensions are inspired from a typical street machine while the tail section has been chopped to give way for the thin single seat. The retro-modern design is truly astonishing.

The extended swingarm, along with the front and rear improved suspension, makes this Himalayan a unique offering. The front suspension is 43mm USD forks from Showa while the rear mono-shock is from Ohlins. The spoke wheels are covered with black covers and tyres are really massive for a motorcycle of this size.

The Dunlop K180 tyres have thick blocks while the front suspension offers fork guards with Royal Enfield branding. The headlight is the most futuristic component seen on this bike, creating a jet fighter style streamlined design for a basic adventure motorcycle. The brakes used here are Nissin 4-piston callipers for 310mm dual discs.

The performance aspects have been raised on the Himalayan SG-411, with a drop of 19kg in the overall weight in comparison to the stock version. The 411cc, single cylinder engine on the motorcycle is good for 24.5 BHP and 32 Nm. The engine comes mated to a 5-speed gearbox. The riding position is still straight while the motorcycle is equipped with a free-flow exhaust unit.

The instrument console seen here is also different in comparison to the console seen on the stock model of the India-spec Royal Enfield Himalayan. The motorcycle is priced at INR 1.80 lakh in India while buyers in the US can get their hands on the stock Himalayan for $4,749. The cost of modification and the total price of the Himalayan SG-411 is not known at the moment.

The Royal Enfield’s stand at London’s 2019 ‘Bike Shed Show’ included a modified Himalayan, labelled as MJR Roach, that packs a turbocharger and has been designed to survive anything. The perfectly customized Royal Enfield Himalayan MJR Roach features rugged styling and premium hardware that gives it a unique and distinctive look.

Going by the design, it shows the stance of aggressiveness with rugged styling. The bike has been heavily modified and one cannot identify it if it has no Himalayan moniker on it. The first noticeable change can be spotted by looking at its headlight. The Himalayan MJR Roach comes with four-pod projector lights.

The windscreen has also been removed and there is a custom panel that has been installed just above the headlamps. The rear end of the bike continues to use a mono-shock suspension, while the front end has been equipped with thick upside-down telescopic forks.

Even the chassis has been given a new paint scheme which matches the crash bars and headlights. There is a yellow belt that runs through the top-centre of the motorcycle which adds a nice contrast to the visuals. The fuel tank of the bike remains the same as that of the original Himalayan but the seat of the motorcycle has been modified making it a proper single-seater model.

Coming to the wheels, the rear one features a massive change as the customised motorcycle is equipped with a very fat tyre with an attractive looking alloy wheel. The front wheel has not been switched and it is the same factory-fitted 21-inch wire-spoke wheel. Both the wheels feature off-road spec knobby tyres.

The premium touch to the bike has been added by installing a single-sided swingarm that has replaced the twin-sided setup. Instead of the conventionally positioned stock exhaust, the Himalayan MJR Roach features a customized twin-pipe exhaust system.

Mechanically, no specifications of the Himalayan MJR Roach have been revealed, but the addition of a turbocharger would have improved the performance numbers on the modified bike. For Braking performance, the power comes from the disc brakes on both wheels while the rear disc brake has also been repositioned. We must say that this turbocharged Royal Enfield motorcycle looks ready to tackle extreme conditions.

The stock model of the Royal Enfield Himalayan uses a 411cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled, SOHC engine with fuel injection that develops 24.5 Bhp of power at 6500 rpm and 32 Nm of peak torque at 4250 rpm. The engine of the bike comes mated to a 5-speed transmission. At present, the stock model of the Himalayan is available with a price tag of INR 1.80 lakh in India.

Royal Enfield recently showcased three different custom models based on the Continental GT 650 and Himalayan at Bike Shed London. It is one of the UK’s biggest custom bike shows. The two models based on the GT650 are keeping the cafe racer profile alive while Himalayan has turned into an entirely different beach tracker.

The details regarding the engine were not shared for any of the examples while one can expect performance boost through the use of lightweight parts and custom exhaust systems with exciting muffler positions. The RE Himalayan now comes with an extra-wide rear tire with custom alloy wheel, USD front forks with a golden finish and four-piece headlight with a negligible windscreen.

The front and rear profile are now extremely different as the motorcycle has turned into a single seat product with painted frame and all-black engine area. The cafe racer options are painted in two different themes, with the first one showing bright paint with dual tone body finish.

The rear half is mostly single tone while the front comes with a shade of red and dark patches as the pattern. The motorcycle now features a wind-protection cowl and fairing can be seen flowing gently to the engine area. The retro-modern appeal is further compensated by the USD golden forks and spoke wheels.

The model comes with lowered clip-on handlebars for a sporty position and high levels of wind protection. The second Continental GT 650 is black-themed and available with additional disc brakes, massive dual exhausts on the one side and futuristic tail area with a unique design.

The front forks are finished in Black while the rear area seems empty due to the thin seat. The 648cc, twin cylinder engine on the motorcycle is good for 52 Nm of torque while Himalayan is using 411cc, single cylinder engine with 32 Nm of torque output.

The 650cc Royal Enfield Twins were launched in November last year and are the most affordable 650cc motorcycles in India. The Royal Enfield Interceptor and the Continental GT are expected to get a price hike soon. A recent report states that the 650 Twins price may go up by INR 15,000-20,000. The price hike update has been reported by GaadiWaadi and the official confirmation from the company’s side is still awaited.

Currently, the Interceptor 650 is priced from INR 2.50 lakh, while the Continental GT is available from INR 2.65 lakh onwards. If we expect the price hike of INR 20,000 then the Interceptor 650 will start from INR 2.70 lakh and the Continental GT 650 will start from INR 2.85 lakh. This would be the first price hike as the prices of the 650cc Royal Enfield Twins remained the same since their launch.

The bikes have been designed to be a global product and they are available in international markets like USA, UK, Thailand, Indonesia, Australia, and New Zealand. Siddhartha Lal, the MD and CEO of Eicher Motors said in an interview last year that the company hopes to achieve global annual sales figure of up to 1 million units with the 650cc twins in the coming 5 to 10 years.

Royal Enfield Thunderbird 350 registered 4,949 units in April 2019, posting an overall growth of 31% in comparison to the sales number of 3,772 units in April 2018. The motorcycle recently got a price hike as it gained ABS along with the other important features and still registered higher than ever sales number falling on its side. The number of units helped Thunderbird series gain the third spot in the brand lineup.

Only the Bullet and Classic series posted bigger numbers, that too as the starting price range for the former and latter is considerably lower. The 346cc, single cylinder engine on all the Royal Enfield bikes is good for 20 HP of maximum power and 28 Nm of maximum torque. The engine comes mated to a 5-speed gearbox.

RE Thunderbird 350 is a direct rival to Jawa 300, with both bikes using dual channel ABS and retro-modern instrument consoles. Thunderbird 350 can also be had with the 350X moniker, adding black alloy wheels and vibrant colours to the fuel tank.

The motorcycle follows cruiser-style body language with 90/90-19 front and 120/80-18 rear tire. The front wheel offers 130mm of travel while the rear gets restricted to just 80mm. The availability of dual disc brakes started from this variant only as swingarm from the Thunderbird series made its way into all the 2019 Royal Enfield motorcycles.

Meet Custom-Made Electric Royal Enfield Classic: Moving ahead with time is the only way to survive the ever-changing scenario of every developing market across the globe. The story is no different for Royal Enfield as with the passing years they have been adding modern features like disc brakes, 2-channel ABS, self-starter, and a better drive-train into their motorcycles.

The brand recently also introduced the 650cc twins in the Indian market. The custom-made electric Royal Enfield Classic from an authorised showroom in Thailand further makes the fact clear that the brand will achieve new heights in the coming years.

The frame has received some alterations to make way for the huge electric motor and battery. The all-electric model of the Royal Enfield Classic comes with a belt driven system and is equipped with a fully digital instrument console that comes with modern features like sprint times and battery health indicator.

No exhaust means no sound and that could be the best thing ever for the environmentalists from the Bullet maker. The Classic model you see here is not yet official as this one is a custom-made motorcycle. Still, the job seems to be very impressive from every angle.

The official word from Royal Enfield clears that they will be entering the electric motorcycle business but at the same time, they made the fact clear that expecting them to be the first won’t be correct. They will need almost a decade (in the worst case scenario) to officially come up with an all-electric lineup. Still, the brand understands the importance of electrification and would work as much as possible to make it happen in the coming years.
