TVS Akula 310 turned into the Apache RR production motorcycle for the Indian buyers in December 2017. Still, the popularity of the Akula moniker and shark-inspired design lines of the motorcycle helped Knight Auto Customizer pick this name for their brilliantly-finished Apache RR 310.

The modified RR 310 you see here features a satin pearl white body finish with gloss flash red alloy wheels. Not just that, some of the body parts have also been finished in carbon-fibre texture. Notable differences can be spotted on the exhaust, console section and the headlight area.

The exhaust of the motorcycle now flaunts black base shade with carbon fibre finish on the chrome parts. The front section of the stock model of the Apache RR 310 features black air ducts while this custom-made TVS Akula 310 flaunts the same in satin pearl white finish for a premium look. The visor has also been wrapped in the black shade while brake and clutch levers have been replaced with adjustable, red-finished levers for precise adjustments.

The fuel tank of the bike is equipped with knee grips and a tank pad for additional functionality and styling. Knight Auto Customizer has used the shark-inspired Akula moniker on the side fairing and BMW Motorrad moniker on the lower edge. The golden upside-down front forks, red alloy wheels, and the additional stripe running through the body make this modified Apache RR 310 look exceptionally sporty.

Powering the Apache RR 310 is a 312cc, single-cylinder engine capable of churning out a maximum power of 34HP at 9700 rpm and an utmost torque of 27.3Nm @ 7700 rpm. The engine is mated to a 6-speed gearbox. The sportbike is now available with a race-tuned slipper clutch in the Indian market. At present, the BS6 model of the RR 310 is priced at INR 2,40,000 (ex-showroom).

The 220cc TVS Zeppelin was unveiled as a concept model at the 2018 Auto Expo. The showstopper falls in the cruiser category of motorcycles, targeting buyers who are in the need of a sports cruiser. After several delays, the earlier reports suggested the brand to launch the Zeppelin in India this year though there has been no information received on the same as of yet. Here are 5 must-know facts about the much-awaited TVS Zeppelin cruiser motorcycle.

5 Must-Know Facts About 220cc TVS Zeppelin

1) First TVS Cruiser Motorcycle – TVS is known for the production of commuter bikes and sportbikes, leaving the cruiser segment empty from the past three decades. The Zeppelin 220 is a typical cruiser motorcycle as it features low seat height, forward-biased foot-pegs, and smaller-than-usual rim size. The cruiser rivals none other than the Bajaj Avenger 220 and Suzuki Intruder 150 while the Jawa Classic 300 and Royal Enfield Thunderbird 350 are other indirect rivals for the upcoming motorcycle.

2) New Age Design – The extended fuel tank, sharp tail section, and the raised pillion seat add modern lines to the package. The engine bay is neat, perfectly-filled and highlighted with silver inserts. TVS showcased the concept version of the bike with a belt-drive system, making it the first motorcycle of its segment to carry the feature. The headlight is heavily inspired by a typical modern street machine.

3) Key Components & Engine Details – The 220cc TVS Zeppelin is equipped with premium 41mm USD front forks, full-LED headlight, belt-drive, and grippy Pirelli Sport Demon tyres. The addition of a sporty exhaust system finished in black shade, and the independent tyre hugger makes Zeppelin an eye-candy for the bike lovers though, the production model is expected to skip some of the premium parts to keep the costs under check.

The Zeppelin is expected to be equipped with a BS6-compliant, 220cc, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected, single-cylinder engine. The same can either be derived from Apache RTR 200’s engine or made from scratch for torque-biased performance.  Mechanically, the concept model is good for 20 HP @ 8500 rpm and 18.5 Nm @ 7000 rpm. The engine is mated a 5-speed gearbox. The unique electric-boost system of Zeppelin can help riders achieve more mileage per refill though, the system is not yet confirmed for the production version of the motorcycle.

4) Instrument Console – The console on the Zeppelin is semi-digital, divided through physical breaks for easy differentiation and clean layout. The console has an analogue tachometer, a digital speedometer, an odometer and a fuel gauge. In comparison, the Bajaj Avenger is equipped with an all-digital console while most of the Royal Enfield motorcycles are equipped with an analogue console. As per one of the recent reports, it is being rumoured that the production-spec model of the Zeppelin with come featured with an all-digital instrument console in addition to getting smartphone connectivity via Bluetooth.

5) Launch Date & Expected Price – The official launch of the 220cc TVS Zeppelin is expected to take place by the end of this year or in early 2021. As far as the pricing is concerned, TVS is expected to launch the cruiser with an approximate ex-showroom price tag of around INR 1.40-1.50 lakh in India.

Next TVS-BMW Bike Launch Details Revealed: According to recent reports, the fourth offspring of the joint venture between TVS and BMW Motorrad will be launched in the year 2021 while the motorcycle will be based on an existing platform. The partnership between the two brands has resulted in the introduction of three motorcycles in the Indian markets which includes the TVS Apache RR 310, the BMW G310R and the BMW G310GS.

K. N. Radhakrishnan, President, CEO & Additional Whole-Time Director, TVS Motor Company Limited has recently reassured the customers that the next joint product from the partnership of TVS and BMW Motorrad will be launched sometime in 2021 as the motorcycle is currently under development while the progress is fully paced despite the issues faced by the automotive industry due to the coronavirus lockdown.

There has been no other official information revealed on the next TVS-BMW bike though disregarding the earlier reports, the latest news now suggests that the brand will be developing the motorcycle on the similar platform that has been offered to the existing three products under the partnership of both the brands. More information on the upcoming motorcycle is expected to be revealed sometime shortly.

The TVS Apache RR 310 is one of the motorcycles that has been recently updated with a BS6-compliant engine for the Indian markets. It’s one of the highly appreciated sports motorcycles from the brand while the BMW G310R and the G310GS have been doing good for the international markets.

Both the BMW motorcycles will be updated with a BS6-compliant engine in the coming weeks and they will get a lesser price tag when compared to their present-gen avatars. In addition to this, the BMW F900XR and 2020 BMW S1000XR are the two motorcycles that are expected to be launched soon by the German brand in the Indian markets.

As we reported earlier, TVS Motor has acquired Norton Motorcycles, the British marque with an all-cash deal worth GBP 16 million (INR 152 crore, approximate). The acquisition of the company doesn’t mean that the Norton Motorcycles will be locally produced in the Indian markets as the brand has not altered any manufacturing decisions for the motorcycles as of yet.

According to the TVS officials, the Norton motorcycles will continue to be manufactured in the United Kingdom just like before. The brand has further decided to retain the same design and assembly team at the manufacturing unit to continue the production though the legalities now lie under TVS Motor Company.

Apart from this, the reports also suggest that the headquarters of the Norton Motorcycles which are currently established in Donington Hall will be shifted to someplace else though closer to the current address. The brand is currently focusing on leveraging the expertise behind the design and engineering team of Norton Motorcycles to establish it a global brand shortly.

Commenting on the acquisition of TVS Motorcycles over the Norton Motorcycles, Sudarshan Venu, TVS Motor Company Joint Managing Director stated: “We’re taking over all the employees except a few, which is basically the old management, who we’re not taking over. The strong design team and assembly team is coming over to us, and we will look to leverage their strength and work with them to deliver more bikes of this storied brand. In Europe, the location is in Derby, in Donington Hall. We will move to another new location very soon, in the same region. The idea is to continue with this very talented team to get the brand back to its original glory and take it into the future. See, right now, if you see, the team at Norton in the UK is very capable. They are manufacturing the bikes really well. And we’ll look to strengthen that as we cater to the global market.”

The MD further stated that TVS Motor is not looking for moving the production to India as Norton is a premium brand and the new ownership will not change any of that. He further believes that the Norton Motorcycles will benefit from a global supply chain as well as the strength already possessed by TVS.

TVS Apache RTR 160 is one of the most sought-after motorcycles from the brand that is cherished across the markets it is available in. The motorcycle has been subjected to a host of customizations on a daily basis though, its newly customized MY2008 avatar by Brilliant Custom Motorcycles in West Java, Indonesia has surpassed them all.

The 160cc bike has been customized into a powerful scrambler making it look rather tough for all the streets. The customized scrambler in no way resembles the stock model of the Apache RTR 160 while the overall scrambler outlook shrieks of utmost perfection and is ready to tackle even the off-roads with its muscular profile.

Coming to the other finer details, the customizers have equipped the motorcycle with wider Shinko Trail Master E-705 dual-sport tyres that have been equipped on the Rossi spoke wheels. The motorcycle features a well-gained mass though the engine specifications have been kept the same.

Powering the customized MY2008 TVS Apache RTR 160 is the same 159.7cc, air-cooled, carburetted, single-cylinder engine that is capable of offering maximum power of 15 HP @ 8,500 rpm and an utmost torque of 13.1 Nm @ 6,500 rpm.

The customizers have equipped a custom battery unit in the motorcycle which perfectly tunes with a longer and thin brown leather seat. The overall silver colour scheme with golden accents blends perfectly with the all-black body components. The front of the scrambler features a twin headlight unit adding to the authenticity while the rear has been stripped of the body panels and features only a tail light as well as the number plate.

The handlebar has been slightly raised while the suspension setup features USD forks at the front. The customizers have further shod the motorcycle with an in-house swingarm as well as a custom exhaust unit. The braking set up on the stock machine has also been tweaked. The overall customization of the TVS Apache RTR 160 into a scrambler by Brilliant Custom Motorcycles only required a total of IDR 3 million (INR 15,000, approximate).

TVS Zeppelin 220 is one of the most anticipated motorcycles from the brand that was initially unveiled as a concept at the Auto Expo back in February 2018. The showstopper falls in the cruiser category of motorcycles, targeting buyers who are in the need of a sports cruiser. After several delays, the earlier reports suggested the brand to launch the TVS Zeppelin cruiser bike in India this year though there has been no information received on the same as of yet.

We expected TVS Motor to unveil the production version of the Zeppelin 220 concept at the Auto Expo 2020 which was held in February this year, but it didn’t happen as TVS decided to skip the auto show. It is now being rumoured that the next TVS-BMW bike would be based on the Zeppelin and the brand would launch the same by the end of this year. It may or may not carry the Zeppelin branding, but the end product would most likely be a 200cc-segment premium cruiser motorcycle.

Mechanically, the TVS Zeppelin concept was showcased with an RTR 200-inspired 220cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine that was good for a maximum power of 20 HP at 8500 rpm and a peak torque of 18.5 Nm at 7000 rpm. The engine on the concept bike was mated to a 5-speed gearbox. The production model of the TVS Zeppelin-based cruiser motorcycle will feature a BS6-compliant engine while offering powerful performance and getting a price tag of around INR 1.40 lakh (ex-showroom).

In terms of looks, the upcoming TVS cruiser bike will feature a bulkier fuel tank design which will be further accompanied by clip-on handlebars while all other body panels are expected to be equipped with premium plastic cladding. The brand showcased the Zeppelin cruiser motorcycle concept with Upside Down (USD) front forks and an HD camera back at the Auto Expo 2018 though the production variant is expected to skip on the rather premium bits to keep the costs under check. The concept bike was showcased with a digital-analogue console but the production model is expected to come equipped with an all-digital instrument console with Bluetooth connectivity like the current-gen TVS Apache RTR 200.

The glorified components will turn decent when the TVS Zeppelin cruiser bike will enter the final production stage. Till date, as not even a single test mule has been spotted testing on the Indian roads, it seems like the bike will launch by the end of 2020 or in early 2021. The production version of the cruiser motorcycle is expected to get front and rear disc brakes along with dual-channel ABS for added safety.

Some reports even suggest that TVS Motor is working on two variants of the Zeppelin 220. One version is expected to carry a normal petrol engine while the second version is expected to feature a petrol-hybrid setup. As all the rival products are conventional petrol-powered cruisers, the upcoming bikes based on Zeppelin are expected to carry an integrated starter generator-equipped engine for saving fuel while idling.

The concept model of Zeppelin was showcased with a belt-drive mechanism though, it may not be on offer on the production-spec model as it will raise the cost of Zeppelin-based products by a huge margin. If and when launched, the cruiser will rival the Bajaj Avenger 220 and Suzuki Intruder 150 while the Jawa Standard 300 and Royal Enfield Classic 350 are other indirect rivals for the upcoming cruiser motorcycle.

The third product designed from the partnership of TVS and BMW Motorrad, the TVS Apache RR 310 joined the portfolio with BMW G310R and G310GS back on Dec 6, 2017. The RR 310 fully-faired sports machine has been able to gather a lot of praise considering its design, style and performance while the rumours now suggest that the brand will be increasing the lineup with a naked RR 310 streetfighter.

Yogi Sejwal Design, one of the well-known rendering artists, recently rendered a very neat image of the TVS Apache RTR 310 (Naked RR 310). The rumoured version of the street motorcycle looks almost production-ready in the rendered image. The side fairing on the fully-faired RR 310 has been removed while the designer has offered the fuel tank with extensions inspired from the Apache RTR 200 4V which compliments the street styling further.

The large windscreen at the front that is seen on the base product has been removed and replaced with a smaller fly screen shod over the twin LED headlight setup. The streetfighter stance of the motorcycle is further accentuated with the use of conventional flat handlebar unit that replaces the clip-on handlebars seen on the fully-faired Apache RR 310.

Apart from the cosmetic changes accentuating its streetfighter character, the motorcycle is expected to remain mechanically unaltered considering the perfect performance ratios of the 2020 Apache RR 310.

One can expect the naked version of the RR 310 to be powered by the same 312.2cc, liquid-cooled, fuel-injected, single-cylinder engine that is capable of churning out a maximum power of 34HP @ 9700 rpm and a peak torque of 27.3Nm @ 7700 rpm.

If the brand actually considers bringing out the Apache RTR 310 (Naked RR 310) in the future, it would be one of the most affordable 300cc naked streetfighters across the country. At present, the RR 310 is available with a price tag of INR 2.40 lakhs while the naked version is expected to undercut its fully-faired sibling by around INR 40,000 to INR 50,000.
