Yamaha India is preparing to launch the FZS Version 3 in India on January 21, 2019. The event will take place in Bangalore in the presence of Yamaha Motor India’s Chairman Motofumi Shitara. As Yamaha is known to organize press events only when they have something major to announce, the new product comes as an update to the bestselling 150cc FZ motorcycle in India. The design is completely different from the second generation model and leaked set of images show LED headlight and additional side fairing on the motorcycle.

The all-new design and refined 149cc engine may not prove that effective this time as Yamaha has moved away from the bulky streetfighter design to something that is more commuter-centric. As liquid cooling would have definitely raised the cost and so will ABS, Yamaha will play carefully with their FZ series. The present positioning of FZ V2 at INR 81,540 (ex-showroom) is a crucial point as no other brand offer fuel injection at this point. Yamaha is also renaming their FZ series to MT in most of the countries. For India, they can simultaneously retail both the options by leaving the affordable streetfighter performance to FZ series and putting MT-15 at a premium point. India-Spec MT-15 was recently spotted testing at a different location.

Yamaha MT-09 is the only available model with this nomenclature, clearing the buyers about the purpose of bringing the lightweight MT-15 into India. On the other hand, Yamaha understands that India being a volume centric market first needs the FZS Version 3 with more power and ABS. Staying under INR 1 lakh in any case, the new FZ will target almost two times the number of customers in comparison to the MT-15. However, Yamaha fans have proved that price may not be a barrier for them as R15 V3 scored more than 15,000 units in October 2018. The FZS Version 3 and MT-15 may collectively score double the number once launched in the country.

Yamaha MT-15 was recently spied for the first time in India. The bodywork was seen with plain black shade on the test mule, further getting some sort of matt finish on the extended tank section. It must have been used to hide the motorcycle name or even the exact design for the production version. Ideally, the recently spotted India-spec MT-15 is an R15 V3 without its fairing and a number of other changes that add comfort to an average rider’s commute. The handlebar is raised and foot position seems slightly sporty in comparison to regular streetfighters, resulting in an upright position for the rider.

As with the R15 V3, this typical MT-15 is seen with conventional telescopic forks with limited travel, identical alloy wheel design with familiar tires and braking system, India-spec footpegs for the pillion, engine dirt protector and a digital flat console. The headlight looks similar to the international-spec model with independent projector under the face and heavy plastic section that forms the complete headlight cluster. The seat section is shorter than ever, clearing the fact that MT-15 is a Duke rival with extra sporty bits and the upcoming FZ V3 is more like a comfort-packed street machine.

The price difference between FZ V3 and MT-15 will stay around INR 25,000 in India. Another interesting fact for the India-spec Yamaha MT-15 is the use of grab-rails in exchange of the wings seen on the international model. Also, Yamaha is seen cutting some cost from the motorcycle by changing the swingarm from the aluminium unit of the R15 V3 to the steel ones from the FZ series. The disc brakes on all Yamaha models are 282mm for the front and 220mm for the rear. MT-15 is expected to use dual-channel ABS while all FZ models could feature single-channel unit for saving some cost.

Yamaha FZ V3 ABS has been spotted for the first time in its production-ready guise at a dealership. The recently spied images give clear hints of a Yamaha FZ25-inspired streetfighter, getting all-new exhaust cover, extended tank shrouds with faux air intakes, and a different front fascia finish. The headlight area now flows more like the quarter-liter machine, further feeling similar when considering the front wheel section with bigger disc and flowing alloy wheel design. However, the DRL section is differentiated from the primary headlight. The engine bay of FZ V3 ABS is exactly similar to the current generation FZS, clearing the fact that changes are visually appealing and more like a facelift than a complete overhaul.

Yamaha FZ V3 ABS may bring more power through the same setup as the present generation model has the most decent output among all others of its segment. The console used here looks similar to FZ25 and dual disc brakes may arrive as standard on the FZ Version 3. Apart from the front fascia, the spy shots received earlier helped us make the remaining guesses. The tail section gets a new tire hugger, familiar taillight design and grab-rail sort of finish after the pillion seat. Yamaha has always shared parts among multiple motorcycles to keep the cost under check and this generation is also a similar story. It seems like the rear tire is also an upgraded 140-section unit from FZ25.

Some of the noticeable upgrades will include extended fairing that connects to the fuel tank shrouds, reworked handlebar position promoting straight riding position and a slightly lower rear section for easy pillion seating. Yamaha is also expected to offer a single, long seat for the model. The current generation 149cc, single cylinder engine is good for 13.2 PS at 8000 rpm and 12.8 Nm at 6000 rpm. The low 9.5:1 compression may get raised for better output in the next generation model. Yamaha FZ-S weighs 133 kg with the rear disc brake and thus, expecting a similar or even higher wet weight for the third generation model is obvious. The dual-channel ABS is expected to be shared with the new Yamaha R15 V3 ABS.

Yamaha R15 V3 ABS vs Honda CBR150R ABS: Yamaha YZF-R15 Version 3.0 and the 2019 Honda CBR150R are the closest possible rivals for 150cc premium performance segment. The R15 V3 made its official debut in India at Auto Expo last year while the new CBR150R is still under the expected list of products for India. Honda has a great chance here as they could revive the CBR150R in India and bring some real competition to similarly priced bikes.

As the Yamaha R15 V3 is now available with ABS and priced at INR 1.39 lakh (ex-showroom), one can expect Honda to place this interesting CBR150R ABS slightly lower for better competition. Honda has brought the quarter-litre CBR250R back and thus, chances of CBR150R’s revival are now an all-time high.

We are not sure whether Honda CBR150R will launch in India or not. If it comes at the right time, buyers are suggested to choose one of them according to their needs. Strict speed lovers who ride once a week on track should blindly go for R15 V3. Those who ride for the leisurely purpose should consider Honda CBR150R as it offers the best power-to-weight ratio in the everyday rpm range. Pricing will further decide the fate of CBR150R in India as higher displacement products are available at impressive prices.

The motorcycle will launch in India this year and rival KTM 125 Duke in the premium streetfighter segment. Indirect rivals will include Bajaj Pulsar NS200 and Apache RTR 200. Yamaha R15 V3 Darknight has been launched in India for INR 1.41 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The mandatory ABS norm will come in effect from April 1 this year while most brands will introduce the safety feature by March. The engine displacement of both R15 models is above 125cc and mandatory ABS stays dual-channel on the premium 155cc model. Even when calculating the estimated on-road price for the upcoming R15-S ABS model, the difference becomes wide due to the 149cc engine on the R15S and 155.1cc on the R15 V3. The latter commands bigger value for the third party insurance.

Yamaha R15 V3 Darknight comes with the same equipment as regular shades, offering buyers the much-awaited matt black shade in the Indian market. As both Saluto and Saluto RX are now available with UBS, the Yamaha SZ-RR remains the only bike that has not been considered for an upgrade. Yamaha is working on the new FZ model and they are expected to announce ABS for the 250cc variant on the same day at the launch event of new FZS V3 (January 21). The price gap for R15 V3 and Darknight stays INR 2,000 on the lightweight racer while other bikes have INR 1000 of difference.

If they plan to go for a single channel unit for the R15-S, the price can go down to approx INR 8000 for the addition. It will be better if they bring dual-channel ABS for their premium race machine as most brands are choosing cost-cutting over the addition of safety through the rear brake ABS. If Yamaha keeps the same ABS unit for all motorcycles, the new FZ can be expected to get an approx price tag of INR 1 lakh. Also, the dual channel ABS on the R15 V3 Darknight makes the motorcycle safer than similarly priced options like Bajaj Pulsar RS200.

Yamaha R15 V3 ABS has been launched in India for INR 1.39 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). The R15 V3 ABS was first seen testing last year near Surajpur, Greater Noida. Yamaha is taking a premium of INR 12,000 for the dual channel ABS and the first units are already on the way to the dealerships. The price hike is comparable to all other brands that charge around INR 10,000-14,000 for the safety feature. Apart from the ABS, no other feature was added or removed from the motorcycle.

Yamaha earlier offered ABS in R1, MT-09, and R3, all three available as CBU or CKD in the country. The local lineup, consisting of R15-S, FZ25, Fazer 25, FZ-S, Fazer and SZ-RR, are all eligible for mandatory ABS fitment before April 1, 2019. All of them are 125cc+ motorcycles, leaving Yamaha with no other option than looking for a system that can be more cost-effective for lower-priced bikes. They could have earlier thought of halting of certain models but now, the numbers claimed by most of them are equally profitable for the brand.

As the R15 V3 costs INR 1.39 lakh, expecting the same unit on R15-S will take the new price to INR 1.29 lakh. Yamaha R15 V3 is a premium racer with a 155.1cc, single cylinder engine, producing 19.3 HP at 10,000 rpm and 15 Nm at 8,500 rpm. It is available in Thunder Grey and Racing Blue, and both the colours look extremely impressive on the road. The brand has also launched a Darknight colour variant for the R15 V3 at INR 1.41 lakh (ex-showroom). Yamaha R15-S is powered by a 149cc engine and producing 17 HP of maximum power. Yamaha is also expected to launch the new third-generation FZ-S in India on January 21. Click here to know more about the FZS V3.

Yamaha FZ Version 3 is once again in the news, this time caught testing in the clearest possible, design-revealing form. The front is clearly inspired from the FZ25, getting a similar front fascia with compact headlight section and raised indicator placement. The alloy wheel design is shared with the present generation dual disc model while the rear tire is different from the one seen on FZ25. The sidewall clears that most cycle parts will be shared with FZ V2 instead of the quarter-litre model. However, the visual upgrades are considerable with a major change in the seating of FZ Version 3.

The split seat that looked very sporty is now missing from the motorcycle, replaced with an ideally stuffed single seat that looks comfortable from the first glimpse. The iconic metal frame-inspired panels that are seen on Yamaha FZ V2 are now replaced with a commuter style panel that runs straight into the rear seat section that now supports a single piece grab rail in comparison to the sporty two-piece unit. The rear fender is now shortened, offering a swingarm-mounted tire hugger for additional visual appeal. The parts underpinning the new body remain identical to the 2018 Yamaha FZ V2.

The biggest change comes near the fuel tank section as visible bulk has increased by a considerable margin. The fuel tank looks decent on the top section while lower area is now seen with an all-new fairing and belly protection panel. The new panel dominantly covers the engine area and can help the rider at some relief from the tiring winds that hit the knees straight on the other streetfighter models.

The 149cc engine on FZ is good for 13.2 PS and 12.8 Nm in the present generation. The engine can be tuned for more output on Yamaha FZ Version 3. The exhaust design is in line with the first generation FZ. The updated model will also get ABS as standard. FZ V3 is expected to launch in India this month as the brand recently confirmed that they will launch a new product on January 21, 2019.
