According to recent reports, Maruti Suzuki has confirmed that they will not be sending their cars to the Global NCAP for crash tests. The brand feels that their vehicles follow all the safety regulations that have been made mandatory by the Indian government including the all-new pedestrian and offset side-impact safety norms while they would not allow any third party agency to rate their vehicles no matter what the other manufacturers are doing.

Commenting on opting out of sending the cars to NCAP, CV Raman, Senior Executive Director – Engineering of Maruti Suzuki India said – “As far as Maruti Suzuki is concerned, we believe that all safety regulations which are mandated by the government and the recently introduced offset side-impact and pedestrian regulation we are meeting..going forward SIAM as a body with the manufacturer are working to bring out the BNCAP. Anything that is led or driven by the government and recognized by the government is something that we would be looking at. Any other agency, it’s okay for the strategy of other manufacturers but Maruti Suzuki would like to work within the ambit of the Indian government regulations.”

The first-ever NCAP crash test was held back in 2014 in which all the participants including the Hyundai i10, Ford Figo, Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 as well as the Tata Nano failed to clear the safety regulations. The GNCAP further decided to declare one of the best selling cars in the Indian automobile segment, the Maruti Suzuki Alto 800 as highly unsafe for the passengers with an unstable shell that wouldn’t be capable of offering safety even with the airbags. In addition to the Alto 800, the Maruti Eeco was another one that bagged 0 out of 5 stars in the Global NCAP crash test ratings.

At present, Maruti Vitara Brezza is the only SUV under the brand’s portfolio that has been awarded four stars by the Global NCAP in crash tests for the adult occupant safety and two stars for the child occupant safety. Other worthy cars that have been awarded five stars in the crash tests include the likes of the recently launched Tata Altroz and the Tata Nexon while the Maruti Ertiga and Swift have been rated with three and two stars respectively.

According to recent reports, the launch of Maruti Suzuki Jimny is likely to get delayed due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic. Instead of October/November this year, the compact SUV is now expected to launch in the Indian market in early 2021. It is one of the most sought-after cars from the brand that has been immensely popular with the crowd ever since its initial unveiling back in 2018.

At present, the Jimny is being manufactured at Suzuki’s Kosai plant located in Japan which currently churns out 4.90 lakh units of the SUV in a year at its full capacity. Thus to cater to the increased production demand as well as to reduce the high waiting period for the Suzuki Jimny, the manufacturers have decided to start the assembly line for the production of the SUV at its Sanand plant in Gujarat, India.

The Indian plant is expected to roll out 4000-5000 units of the Jimny in a month, most of which will be imported to the international markets. The reports also suggest that the production of the SUV at the Sanand plant will commence soon while the export will start in the coming months. One can expect the India launch of the SUV to take place 6 months after the beginning of exports from the Sanand plant.

Since Maruti Suzuki Jimny is one of the flagship products from the brand to be launched with a hefty price tag, the plans to launch the Jimny in the Indian market were not confirmed by the brand earlier though considering that the brand will now export its units to the other international markets from India, the economy can be met.

One can expect the Maruti Suzuki Jimny to be launched at a price tag around INR 10 lakh and will be sold in the Indian markets via the NEXA dealerships. The off-road compact SUV will be powered by the 105HP/138Nm K15B 1.5-litre petrol engine that currently powers the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza facelift, Ertiga, XL6 and more. The engine will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox as well as an optional 4-speed automatic transmission.

New 7-Seater Maruti SUV in the Works: As per the latest buzz, Maruti Suzuki with a purpose to increase its overall market share is planning to launch a 7-seater SUV that is likely to get the Vitara branding. Since Maruti has discontinued all of its diesel engines after the implementation of the BS6 emission norms, the brand feels obligated to offer more to its customers to remain ahead in the game.

Since all the Maruti’s top competitors have upgraded their diesel engines to meet the BS6 emission norms, launching an all-new SUV will be one of the wisest steps taken by the brand to maintain its market share in India. Expected to be based on the HEARTECT platform, the upcoming 7-Seater Maruti SUV will feature a three-row seating architecture.

The brand is expected to offer the upcoming SUV with a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine which will be good a maximum power of 103 HP at 6000 rpm and a peak torque of 138 Nm at 4400 rpm. The 1.5L engine from Maruti Suzuki has been known to offer optimum performance in addition to offering an unrivalled driving experience.

The recent report suggests that the upcoming 7-seater Maruti SUV will be unveiled by the brand in 2021. The brand currently uses the Vitara branding for three of its cars which includes the Vitara Brezza, Grand Vitara that was launched in India in 2003 in addition to the international-spec Vitara SUV.

Once launched in India, the 7-seater Maruti Suzuki is expected to compete with the likes of the most-dominating SUVs in the Indian market like Hyundai Creta, MG Hector, Kia Seltos, Tata Harrier and more. The brand is also expected to unveil an electric SUV in the coming months by the name Futuro-E though there has been no official confirmation received on the same.

Maruti Gypsy SUV Converted into Snowmobile: Maruti Suzuki Gypsy was one of the best-selling products from the brand. It was the first-ever 4×4 vehicle that was launched by the brand in the Indian markets though it has been discontinued since long. It was one of the most sought-after SUVs for the police forces as well as Indian army considering its powerful performance and a ‘Rough & Tough’ character.

The 4×4 SUV was also an off-road enthusiast favourite back in its days. Though the SUV has been discontinued in the Indian markets, the customization artists never cease to amaze us with its different avatars and the recently customized Maruti Gypsy into a snowmobile is something that needs to be showcased to the world.

Coming to the final product, the customized SUV looks almost similar from the top portion though glancing downwards, the Gypsy has been shod with separate tank tracks at all the four wheels. The tank tracks are so massive that further allows easy movement in the snow. The customizers have offered the wheels on the SUV a tank track measuring almost 5-7 feet in length and 3-4 feet in width. All of the four tracks working together absolutely turns the SUV into a splendid snowmobile that can tackle a large amount of snow and would be extremely useful in the mountain areas.

The design and style offered to the tyres on the SUV further make us wonder if it can also take on the muddy as well as sandy terrains. Despite the extremely innovative design, the exceptionally heavyweight offered to the tank tracks are expected to make the vehicle rather heavy to register high speeds.

The stock 1.3-litre petrol engine on the BS4 Maruti Gypsy is good for offering 80 HP and 103 Nm, which is not expected to suffice for the extremely heavy overall customized design. Replacing the Maruti Gypsy in the Indian markets will be the new Suzuki Jimny. The SUV was showcased back at the Auto Expo in February 2020 and is expected to be launched in India next year.

Certain commendable car modifications are absolutely worthy of a glance and the heavily-modified Maruti Swift Godfather needs to be given all the credit. This typical Maruti Suzuki Swift carries the honour of being the first-ever bagged Swift in India. For those who are new to this term, bagging a car means replacing its stock suspension with an air suspension that can be controlled at will.

Bagging has different grades as some prefer raising and lowering one end at a time while others create such a system that each individual corner can be controlled freely. This setup from Viair allows the suspension to enjoy variable levels of setting at different roads and more than that, it allows this typical ‘Swift Godfather’ to achieve that ‘Need for Speed’ race car looks.

Pushing everything to the limits, this customized Swift Godfather features 18-inch ‘J Emotion R’ alloy wheels shod with an extra-wide set of 215/35-18 tyres. The NKS widebody kit offers all-new bumpers at both ends that mimic race cars to some extent. The front end of the Swift Godfather features an all-new bonnet design and more than that, the grille looks quite unique with silver inserts and space for the number plate.

The headlights of the stock model have been replaced with custom units that offer LED daytime running lights and projectors. The hatchback has been further equipped with splitters at both ends while the rear-lower half feels more like an imaginary Lamborghini hatchback for sure. The side skirts and the dual stainless steel exhausts are also pretty visible and add on to the unique look of the car.

The large functional spoiler can be seen complementing the overall sporty look of this Swift. Some of the other noticeable features include a Webasto sunroof, an aftermarket audio system with large woofers mounted on a custom-built platform, butterfly doors and exterior colour-coded interior inserts. The modifiers have tastefully added red inserts into the interior as the colour flows through the pillars till the boot area.

No performance upgrade for this Maruti Swift has been mentioned by the modifier while they have successfully added a second rearview mirror with camera display in addition to a touchscreen infotainment system. The car belongs to Roshan Francis from Kerala, who has spent close to INR 10 lakhs on the modification of his Maruti Swift diesel.

New Suzuki Jimny is one of the SUVs that has been able to take the market in its wind and leave the majority of its competitors behind. Even though the SUV is smaller in size, the ultimate design language and powerful performance make it stand tall. The SUV has been subjected to many customizations across the world, though the recent Jimny Landmaster pickup truck features an entirely new profile.

The small pickup truck is based on the MK4 Suzuki Jimny and it has been the talk of the town ever since it was created by KAP Suzuki, UK. The Jimny Landmaster has a decent amount of loading capacity while the pickup truck isn’t much powerful when compared to the likes of Toyota Hilux or Ford Ranger but it sure is capable of meeting the daily utility needs. KAP Suzuki has chopped off the rear end of the stock model of the Jimny SUV and replaced it with a small cargo bay to carry the utilities.

The pickup truck is based on the Suzuki Jimny’s entry-level variant while misses out on features like alloy wheels or even projector headlamps that are available on the top-spec variant of the SUV. To enhance the off-road capabilities of the pickup truck, KAP Suzuki has equipped it with huge BF Goodrich tyres along with sturdy silver-finish 5-spoke alloy wheels.

The standard safety package offered to the truck includes the likes of a high beam assist as well as a dual-sensor braking technology. The gearbox option offered to the customized truck also remains to be a 5-speed manual as seen on the JZ trim. The custom-made truck further misses out on a touchscreen infotainment unit as well as leather-clad steering wheel design.

Powering the Suzuki Jimny Landmaster pickup truck is the same 1.5-litre K-Series petrol engine that is capable of churning out a maximum power of 101HP and a peak torque of 130Nm. The customization is officially endorsed by the authorities so the customers can get the pickup truck registered legally while one can contact KAP Suzuki for availability and pricing details.

It is a well-known fact that the resurrection of some of the iconic product names from the iconic brands guarantees a feeling of nostalgia that automatically drives the audience in wishing more and seeing the product back on the streets. This time, Rajshekhar Dass, a transportation designer from India has come up with an idea of a Maruti 800 electric car. Just the name 800 is the reminiscence of evocative history in the Indian markets and the resurrection of this name is bound to get major audience attention.

Since the Indian customers are not that keen on buying electric vehicles which are far greener than the regular gasoline-driven vehicles, a Maruti Suzuki 800 electric hatchback might be an easy way to make the customers incline towards a powerful electric powertrain.

Maruti 800 Electric Car Sketches

The designer remembers seeing a Maruti 800 back in Turkey and since the car was one of the most preferred family cars in the Indian markets that contributed over 2.5 million sales in all its lifetime, resurrecting the Maruti 800 with an electric powertrain might act as a game-changer in the Indian markets.

He further envisions seeing a Maruti Suzuki 800 electric hatchback to be brought to reality and offering 130 km of range in a single charge of the battery. In addition to offering a preferred range, the hatchback should feature IoT (Internet of Things) features for smartphone connectivity, a fingerprint scanner as well as a facial recognition system to set it apart from the others.

The hatchback is further imagined with a floating screen in the middle that further offers multiple intelligent functions like operating windows, changing window tint colours and so much more. Though the imagination of a Maruti Suzuki 800 electric hatchback from the designer’s point of views seems to be rather far stretched for a hatchback to get exceptional features, one can certainly imagine it getting an electric powertrain and an affordable price tag in the Indian markets amidst some regular electric hatchback-inspired features.
