In order to make its presence known across newer cities as well as towns in India, Maruti Suzuki has launched its all-new mobile NEXA Terminal. The new initiative will allow the brand to reach more potential as well as existing customers and offer them a chance to experience full-fledged NEXA services. The brand has opened 360 NEXA showrooms across the country till date and has over 9 lakh customers. Maruti Suzuki India offers Ignis, Baleno, Ciaz, and S-Cross models through its NEXA showrooms.

According to the brand, the mobile NEXA Terminal will offer an identical experience to the customers as offered by a showroom. India’s largest carmaker has witnessed sales drop in the last consecutive four months and this initiative allows the brand to reach more customers in the mobile areas, where there are no NEXA outlets. The mobile outlet features a lounge and display area as well as allows the customers to access information via tablets.

Commenting on the success of Nexa, Shashank Srivastava, Executive Director, Marketing and Sales, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. said: “In less than 4 years of its launch, NEXA has rapidly grown to become the most successful premium retail network in India and contributes over 20% to our total sales. In this short span of time, we have set up over 360 NEXA outlets covering more than 200 cities and added over 9 lakh happy NEXA customers. This mobile NEXA terminal will help us to connect with customers in geographies where NEXA outlets are currently not present.”

The premium cars under the NEXA accounts to more than 20% of the total sales of the brand. The mobile NEXA outlet is the second initiative taken by the brand for connecting well with its customers across the country, the “Suzuki Connect” being the first. The latter allows the brand to enhance the real-time experience for its customers by offering live updates, vehicle status, emergency alerts as well as vehicle tracking via a smartphone app.

Maruti Suzuki is the worst hit car brand of India, regularly posting a decrease in sales numbers in comparison to their immensely praiseworthy sales figures of the year 2018. The total number of cars, including both import and export models, sold in May 2019 was just 1,34,641. For sheer comparison, the same month last year got 1,72,512 units on their side.

The overall decline in sales is 22% while comparing the local sales figures take the sales drop number even higher at 25.1%. The sales number for India is 1,21,018 units in May 2019 while the same month last year had 1,61,497 units for Maruti Suzuki.

The brand saw a huge drop in sales numbers regarding entry-level cars in India while those looking for full-sized sedans preferred other options in place of the new Ciaz. Every car in the lineup saw declining numbers, with Vitara Brezza posting a number that is almost 25% lower to its yearly average.

Maruti Super Carry, the only commercial vehicle in their lineup, saw an increase of 31% in the sales number. However, the number gained is approx 500 units higher than the May 2018 sales number. While many points into the direction of Hyundai Venue for Vitara’s downfall, the problem is even more serious.

The Vitara Brezza is available with just a diesel engine and buyers can be seen switching from diesel to petrol options for the compact segment. As they are unable to manage the needs of these sort of buyers, they are seen moving into Hyundai, Tata and Ford family with options like turbocharged petrol engines. The small cars are losing customers with a diesel engine as their first need and Maruti has even announced the discontinuation of the compact engine in the coming months.

The sales numbers will keep on falling if Maruti Suzuki doesn’t launch a new product with all the desired values for the Indian market. Moreover, the company must update its products to meet higher safety standards. The brand recently also shut down the production for one day to keep a check on the inventory pileup.

A recent report in the automotive industry claims that Maruti Suzuki NEXA showrooms planned for the next phase will be smaller in size and focus will stay on just two car display area with the same facility as the normal Tier-1 city dealerships. The move will help in keeping the dealer cost low and not just that, Maruti will lease the showrooms after making them sale-ready to the prospective partners.

This will also help them utilize the huge INR 30,000 crore cash reserve in the real estate sector. The step was considered after getting a large number of requests from the customers regarding the NEXA dealership set up in their area and most of them were from Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities.

Maruti NEXA is a premium car buying destination from the largest selling brand and most dealerships are located in metro and Tier-1 cities. As per the present situation, the prospective buyers from rural areas and small cities, who are interested in the new Ciaz, Baleno, S-Cross, and Ignis have to visit their nearest Tier-1 city for the NEXA experience.

Smaller NEXA Showrooms

Maruti will also use the concept of mobile dealerships to target more buyers in the coming months. The dealers have already complained about rising costs and shrinking profits, leaving the brand with no other option than compensating through leasing program and restricting the total production to manage inventory in a better way.

Maruti Suzuki recently took a day off from production this week and moreover, the reduction of 10% in total production from April 2019 further confirmed that they are struggling to move cars from the inventory. The monthly offers on Maruti cars bring huge benefits in the form of cash discount, exchange bonus and complimentary insurance.

The brand now retails four cars from the NEXA lineup, accounting to be around 20% of the total sales. They are willing to improve the same through more dealerships while standard Arena dealerships will focus on the increase in a number of products.

Maruti Suzuki recently launched the Vitara Brezza sports edition, which is more like an accessorised version of the car. The regular model of the car is priced from INR 7.67 lakh to 10.43 lakh, and the Brezza sports edition accessory kit can be purchased for any of the existing variants for an additional cost of INR 29,990.

The company is offering a wide range of accessories in the sports edition package which includes new yellow muscle finish seat covers, attractive body graphics, chrome front and rear garnish, designer mats, wheel arch kit, neck cushions, side cladding, side skid plate, leather steering cover, and door sill-guard. Existing Vitara Brezza customers can also equip their cars with the accessory kit by paying for this sports edition package.

While introducing the Brezza sports edition the company said: “It (Vitara Brezza) has achieved the fastest 4 lakh sales mark in the SUV segment in just 35 months, with a CAGR of over 13%. Vitara Brezza is one of the top 10 best selling cars in the country. It has been consistently clocking growing numbers, much higher than several competition products put together.”

Maruti Vitara Brezza Sports Edition

The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza has undoubtedly remained the best-selling car in the subcompact SUV segment since its launch in India. But now the recently launched Hyundai Venue can have a significant impact on its sales. The Vitara Brezza was launched in 2016 and since its launch, Maruti Suzuki has sold over 4.35 lakh units in the Indian market.

As per the latest details available, by March 2020 the D13A 1.3-litre DDiS 200 diesel engine is likely to be replaced by the K15B 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with a new BSVI compliant powertrain. The four-cylinder engine produces 105HP at 6000 rpm and 138 Nm of peak torque at 4400 rpm. The updates on the Vitara Brezza are aimed to increase the style quotient of the car and to make it even better to maintain its lead in the subcompact SUV segment.

Maruti Suzuki is facing tough days as they had to shut down production for one day at their Manesar and Gurugram facility. The manufacturer is said to have alarmingly high levels of inventory with the dealers and their stockyards, forcing them to take a break from the production process for an entire day.

The employees got a day off on Monday as the company was facing stock management issue around that time. The combined annual production from both these facilities is approx 15.5 lakh units while the company has not yet commented on the surprising move officially.

The reduction in production capacity has already been implemented in April 2019 by approx 10% but still, it seems like the slowing down of sales will have a big impact on the company’s profits. The overall drop in sales in the Indian market is around 17% while Maruti Suzuki still holds around 52% of the market share. In accordance with the drop, they have the biggest falling number, totalling in such a way that many brands would fit into that number for the Indian market.

Maruti Suzuki Shuts Down Production
Maruti Suzuki Shuts Down Production for One Day

The market scenario is worst in comparison to any random month from the last eight years and the impact seen on the big brands is harsher than the small portion of the number lost by some other brands. Maruti Suzuki has already discussed the need to consider new products that will bring big numbers for the coming months. On the other hand, their recent dealer-meet concluded on a sad note that many dealer partners have gone out of the game due to pilling loses.

The branding of Arena dealership network required a large number of funds while Nexa is facing halts with negative growth for products like Ignis and S-Cross. The 3-year insurance rule and rising on-road costs further contributed to the tough scenario for Maruti Suzuki.

Maruti Suzuki is planning to launch its first small electric car in 2020. It will most likely make an official debut at the Auto Expo in February next year. The upcoming car will be based on the new generation model of Japan-spec WagonR. As the world is shifting its focus away from ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) powered vehicles to EVs (Electric Vehicles), Maruti Suzuki believes that India is not yet ready for full-scale electric passenger cars.

The brand recently also announced that they are going to stop selling diesel cars in India starting from April next year. All this is happening because last year in October the Supreme Court announced that by April 1, 2020, all the automobile manufacturers have to adopt BSVI emission norms. Bharat Stage VI (BS6) norms are two stages ahead of the present Bharat Stage IV norms in regulating emissions.

These norms are the standards instituted by the government to regulate the emission of air pollutants from motor vehicles. The amount of Sulphur is the major difference between BSIV and BSVI norms. BSIV fuels contain 50ppm sulphur while BSVI grade fuel only has 10ppm of sulphur. Making the cars BSVI-compliant will require very high investment in research and development to upgrade the engines.

India’s leading carmaker Maruti Suzuki has raised some serious concerns regarding the adaptability to electric vehicles and commented that in the current regulatory regime, even a small petrol car like WagonR which starts from INR 4.30 lakhs would cost up to INR 12 lakhs in its all-electric avatar. That’s a lot of amount for a car of WagonR’s size.

The price of a small EV could go beyond the reach of small car owners. Also, a proper infrastructure is also required to charge the car as most of the people in India park their cars outside their house so it would not be possible for them to charge the car.

Maruti Suzuki recently unveiled the prototype of their upcoming WagonR EV and they also had put around 50 units on test on the Indian roads. So it would be interesting to see that in the near future how the scenario of the upcoming electric cars would change and how many people would be ready to own an all-electric car in India.

Note: The Images of Next-Gen Suzuki WagonR used in the article are for representational purpose only. The exterior and interior design of the first small electric car by Maruti Suzuki is expected to based on the new Japan-spec WagonR.

Due to the auto industry slowdown, Maruti Suzuki is facing tough times as the massive production cut by the company is a clear symbol of falling sales and fear of inventory pile-up. The best-selling car brand of India sells over 1.50 lakh cars in a month in good times while recently, the number has fallen down by almost 20%.

The dealers are facing problems with the new car business as the number of buyers has seen a sharp drop due to factors like the elections and an increase in the on-road cost of the cars. High taxation in the Indian market means consumers have to pay a higher value at every step and thus, purchasing drops significantly with this negative measure.

The high amount of registration charge, coupled with one-time insurance payment for 3-years and many other factors like 53% GST on the production of cars above 4-meter has made it difficult for the brands to survive.

Maruti Suzuki is a special case here as huge numbers are definitely more vulnerable than brands who already have a number smaller than even the change witnessed by the favourite Indian brand. The official dealer meet in Macau was not held for any celebration like before as the partners of the brand were made aware of the crisis-like situation by the Chairman himself.

The official figures explained that even after offering up to 15-18% of discount, there is a slowdown for sure in the industry. Interestingly, some of the most reputable Maruti Suzuki dealers from the metro cities had to shut business in the last few months due to pilling losses.

The effect of the auto industry slowdown was clear on all the brands as negative sales growth was posted by almost 90% of the brands in India. Some are even happy with sustainable numbers. Maruti will bring the new Future-S based car and sporty Ertiga to bring back some numbers. They are even considering the 7-seater WagonR to attract practical car buyers.

As per the latest details available, the 7-Seater Maruti WagonR will launch in India in the coming weeks. The production of this compact people mover will be handled by the Gujarat facility of Maruti Suzuki. Launch of the new 7-Seater Maruti WagonR will create a new segment in India as pricing it between INR 6-7 lakh will allow buyers to choose this one in place of Eeco for a premium feel.

People who were planning for Ertiga petrol could also consider WagonR 7-Seater for once, slightly compromising on the comfort and the rear legroom. Maruti will use the same platform as the regular WagonR and thus, upcoming safety norms will be followed with full effect on the new 7-seat version.

New-Gen Maruti WagonR (5-Seat)
New-Gen Maruti WagonR (5-Seat)

The new car will feature three rows of seating and that too with front facing seats on all three of them. To keep the added weight away from the ground, Maruti will offer 7-seat WagonR with more ground clearance and added features. Like the 5-seat model of WagonR, the interior will feature dual-tone black and beige finish while features like remote control central locking and power steering will help the users enjoy driving this car all around with ease.

The 7-Seater Maruti WagonR will measure under 4 meter in length and will compete in the market with none other than Datsun Go+ in India. It will benefit from Maruti’s large dealership network and one of the recent reports hint that the 7-seat WagonR will retail from the NEXA stores.

Maruti WagonR Interior
The Dashboard Design is Expected to Stay Same like the 5-Seat Model

Datsun Go+ was a capable product but, could not sell in good numbers as last row seats are much compact in comparison to bigger cars. They can only be used by children and thus, will give an edge to Maruti WagonR 7-Seater over its primary rival. The car will carry ABS and dual front airbags as standard.

Maruti is yet to offer these safety features on smaller hatchbacks but those receiving face-lifts are either getting them standard or at least through optional variants. The upcoming model of WagonR will be powered by the same 1.2L petrol engine, which is good for 82HP of maximum power and 113NM of maximum torque.

Suzuki Swift Sport Katana Edition is the most expensive and exclusive variant for the popular hatchback, taking the global platform to a next level through a limited production run of just 30 units. The presence of this specific car variant is restricted to the Dutch market and comes based on the theme of the popular Suzuki Katana motorcycle. The sports bike arrived internationally after a decade of absence and brought semi-faired design lines into existence. The car promotes both itself and the exclusive Katana motorcycle, with both sharing the metallic silver paint job to keep fans excited about the limited model.

Suzuki Swift Sport Katana is available with sporty red accents, graphics on the side profile, black race stripe through the bonnet and contrasting roof finish. The car comes with 17-inch wheels and those willing to show some more attitude can opt for the huge 18-inch units on their car. The interior features sporty seats with steering and seat cover flaunting the special edition marks like the car’s number and Katana branding. The engine was not tweaked at all while the suspension is lower on the Katana Edition. Those looking for standard suspension can get the same adjusted while making a purchase.

The 1.4L, 4-cylinder Boosterjet petrol engine on the Swift Sport is good for 140 HP and 230 Nm of torque. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox, claiming 210 kph of top speed from the model. The car comes loaded with all the everyday features like the navigation, reverse parking system, tire pressure monitoring, and automatic climate control system. Suzuki will first see the response of Katana Edition in the Netherlands and then launch the same across other European countries. The car is priced much higher than usual Swift Sport at 28,999 Euros (INR 22.54 lakh approx).
