MG Motor has officially showcased its India-spec flagship SUV at the Auto Expo 2020 that will rival the Ford Endeavour and Toyota Fortuner. Christened as Gloster, the full-size SUV is a 7-seater vehicle and is based on the Maxus D90, which is sold by another brand under SAIC Motor Corporation.

The large SUV by MG Motor comes in a pack with a lot of comfort and convenience features like a panoramic sunroof, a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, three-zone climate control system, an eight-inch fully-digital instrument cluster, a 360-degree camera and electrically-adjustable front seats with heating, cooling and massage function.

Though the final spec sheet for the Gloster SUV is yet-to-be-announced, the massive exterior design ensures a large cabin which will provide lots of room in all three rows. The dimensions of the upcoming SUV reveals that it is pretty big in size. It measures 5,005mm in length, 1,932mm in width, and 1,875mm in height. The wheelbase of the car is 2,950mm.

Mechanically, the MG Gloster is expected to be offered with a 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel engine that will produce 218HP of maximum power along with a 480Nm of peak torque. The engine will further come mated to a 6-speed manual or an 8-speed automatic gearbox while the power will be sent to all four wheels.

We can expect the new product by MG Motor to be priced between INR 35-40 lakhs (ex-showroom) because Gloster SUV will be assembled in India with a low amount of localization. MG’s Hector has proved to be a big success for the brand that drastically impacted the mid-size SUV segment and now things seem to be more spiced up once Gloster will be there to compete in the premium SUV segment.

MG Hector Fire Incident Reason Revealed: As we reported earlier, in a shocking incident, an MG Hector owned by a Delhi resident was caught on fire in the middle of the road. All the passengers and the driver present at that time were declared safe.

After issuing an official statement regarding how the brand was not at fault, the owner of the SUV, Mr Bhupender Singh cleared the air and ensured that the SUV could have caught fire due to the accessories he got installed from a third-party vendor.

Now, the British manufacturer has officially released its statement on the matter. The brand after several investigations has concluded that the cause of the fire was a foreign material such as a cleaning cloth left inside the engine area near the high-temperature parts of the exhaust system.

Since the investigation issued by the brand declared all the electrical wiring as well as oil and fuel line of the SUV intact, the cause of the fire was ultimately the foreign material, the debris of which was found in a charred condition by the investigation team.

According to the brand, MG Hector has been developed by surpassing the global safety standards and has been tested on the Indian roads for over 10 lakh kilometres. The company has also gifted the customer a brand new Hector as compensation to his loss. Here is the official statement issued by MG Motor on their behalf concerning the Hector fire incident.

MG Hector Fire Incident

Official Statement Released

Four days ago, we were apprised by one of our esteemed customers about the fire in his MG Hector in Delhi. This was unfortunate and the first case of its kind for us. The customer and the driver were completely safe.

We immediately started two sets of investigations. One team comprised of our internal team of expert engineers specially trained on such issues at MG Motor. At the same time, we contacted an independent external agency under the Government to investigate the details and determine the root cause.

Both investigations concluded that the electrical connections as well as oil and fuel line of this car were completely intact. It further reveals the presence of foreign material and its debris in the complete charred condition in the engine bay near very high-temperature zone – exhaust manifold and ABS module line. The debris of the material could be suggestive of the presence of foreign material such as cleaning cloth or something similar which could have been the cause of the fire under contact with high-temperature parts of the exhaust system.

We would like to apprise you that the customer and his family are very satisfied without response and handling of the issue. They are happily driving another Hector. The MG Hector has been tested for over 1 million kilometres in India before its launch and it is built-in line with global standards. Consumer safety is a key priority for us at MG Motor India and a core part of our internal value systems.

We would also like to reiterate our commitment towards complete transparency and providing our customers with a quick response to all their queries and issues.

We are determined to build our brand through the strength and quality of our products and by delivering great customer satisfaction.

Here’s Why MG Hector Caught Fire in Delhi: Responding to the video getting viral on Whatsapp and other social media channels of the MG Hector burning in the middle of the road, the owner has finally cleared the air on the subject. The SUV was spotted at the middle of the LG House road in New Delhi and it was engulfed in unmanageable fire.

The SUV seen in the video was the MG Hector top-spec DCT variant while the entire scenario of it getting fire did cause a ruckus among the audience concerning the safety of the passengers and the reliability of recently launched SUV in the Indian market.

MG Hector Caught Fire in Delhi (Video)

The reports of the SUV getting caught on fire circulated on social media channels as well as major forums within no time while the customers started blaming the British manufacturer for not paying heed to the most important aspect of an automobile, that is the driver’s as well as the passenger’s safety.

The brand was quick enough to investigate the matter within a few hours and has finally cleared the air with all its prospective customers. The owner of the MG Hector has taken full responsibility of the event and ensured how he appreciated the time and effort that the MG officials took out to reach to him while further ensuring the safety of all the passengers present in the SUV at that time.

According to the owner Mr Bhupender Singh, the SUV caught fire due to the accessories he got installed in the SUV from a third party vendor at the dealership. The owner of the SUV in no way blames the brand for not taking care of the safety parameters inside the SUV. Here is the official statement issued by Bhupender Singh regarding the incident:

Here’s Why MG Hector Caught Fire in Delhi; Owner Issues Statement

“This is in reference to the incident I have experienced on 20th Jan 2020 on my MG Hector. I sincerely appreciate the gesture of MG Motor for promptly reaching out to me & proactively helping me and resolving my concern. All members in the car are safe. I had fitted some accessories in my car at the dealership which could be the probable reason for the incident. I have enjoyed my experience with MG and this high level of customer service and quick response has furthered my confidence in MG.”

Since the third party accessories can cause electrical issues and be responsible for the fires to erupt, the customers must thoroughly research the pros and cons of the modifications they are getting for their cars. MG Motor India has launched ‘MG Experience on Wheels’ mobile showroom for the Hector SUV. Through the launch of the showroom, the British brand has attempted to expand its influence to new markets/cities across the country as this initiative will help MG leave a trail in India and will strengthen its customer base.

MG Hector looks forward to reaching the tier-2 and tier-3 cities where its existence is still unnoticed and the mobile showroom – a 45-foot trailer will undertake a pan-India journey and will focus on the said areas. At the showroom, the company will display MG Hector and the place will try to deliver a similar experience as a regular MG Motor showroom. The customers can expect an exposure which will be a combination of ‘real car experience’ and digital experience.

The mobile showroom will have an interactive digital terminal through which visitors can experience the Hector while they can also choose their accessories and can also configure their car. The motive behind this step is to reach out to new markets and be able to involve more customers in rural and semi-urban areas. After the success of MG Hector, the debutant SUV from the brand in the Indian market, the Britsih marquee is all set to introduce the 6-seater MG Hector in the country. The most anticipated SUV has been recently spied testing on the Indian roads.

Courtesy of one of the Maxabout enthusiasts, we have access to the recently spied images of the upcoming SUV. Though the six-seat setup is not visible from its outer profile, one can easily identify the exclusive look offered to the exterior of the SUV to stand it apart from the standard Hector.

Coming to the front fascia, the 6-seater MG Hector features a redesigned honeycomb grille which is now larger than the one seen on the 5-seater standard variant. In addition to this, the SUV now features a split LED DRLs setup while the redesigned headlight setup houses the turn indicators as well.

The updated 6-seater variant of the MG Hector will take inspiration from the recently updated Baojun 530 in China. Coming to the rear profile, the SUV now features a redesigned tail section with clear lens inserts in addition to faux exhaust inserts in the rear bumper.

If the brand follows the same pattern as that offered to the Baojun 530, the 6-seater MG Hector will also feature redesigned bumpers in addition to getting a different cabin as well as distinguished alloy wheels. The six-seat setup will be further achieved in the SUV by two captain seats in the second row.

The upholstery colour may also be varied for the upcoming Hector variant. The convenience and safety features in the new MG Hector variant will remain identical to the one offered on the 5-seater variant which includes a panoramic sunroof, 10.4-inch portrait-oriented touchscreen infotainment system, internet connectivity and more.

The 6-seater MG Hector will get the same engine options offered on the standard variant. The brand is expected to launch the SUV in the first half of next year. Once launched in India, the 6-seater MG Hector will compete in the market with the likes of upcoming 7-seater Harrier as well as the updated Hyundai Creta and Mahindra XUV500.

The brand will restart the production of the SUV soon and during an official announcement it has been notified that out of the total bookings registered, the first 15,000 bookings are on the priority list by MG Motor and thus for them, the waiting time will be hovering around 3 to 4 months.
