Tata Harrier is a showstopper with its bold bonnet line and massive dimensions. If the stock configuration was not enough to excite your senses, the digitally-modified Harrier off-road concept by Yogi Sejwal Designs will definitely ring a bell. The car seen here wears Yellow shade as the base and comes with added enhancements like black roof and bonnet finish. The wing mirrors and snorkel were also finished completely black for the raised off-road attitude on the rendered Tata Harrier. The stock tyres were removed to fix the car with these off-road tyres that technically raise the ride height on most cars.

The front bumper now flaunts metal bash plate, additional fog lights, and a winch to help with easy towing. The bumper protector looks huge for a car of this size but practically, the design makes the car look more like a tough jungle vehicle with no fear of any obstacle in the way. The roof supports floodlights while wheel arches were made bolder than the stock car. The most powerful car of its kind, Tata Harrier is using a stock 2.0L diesel engine with 140 HP of maximum output. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. The automatic gearbox is yet to arrive on the model.

Tata Harrier was earlier expected to come with a 4×4 drivetrain. Tata is expected to launch the more capable model later, clearly taking time to judge the response of the buyers and see if the need arrives. The four-wheel drive option can arrive on the seven-seat variant of the Harrier, most probably coming through the Auto Expo 2020 platform for the public. The present-day Harrier measures 4598mm in length, 1894mm in width and 1706mm in height. The wheelbase is also class-leading at 2741mm. The car comes with 205mm of ground clearance and 425-litres of decent boot space.

Tata Aquila, the reported official name for concept 45X, was recently spied for the first time in India. The images surfaced for the interior, covered with a black film to hide the actual elements of the upper section. The most detailed element out of all was the instrument console, seen with an odd-shaped analogue speedometer with a huge display that comes with tachometer and all details regarding the car. It seems to use the same mirroring technology and could bring navigation and other details like music to the driver’s ease. The coloured display comes with odometer detail on the bottom section while the right side shows the fuel level in an interactive blue theme.

The dots seen on the screen resemble multiple views for the section, controlled through the navigation buttons on the left half of the steering wheel. The sporty wheel comes with a silver insert on the third spoke while dashboard hints at multiple layers with touchscreen display floating right above the vents. The premium essence from the interior confirms that Maruti Baleno and Hyundai i20 will get a tough rival in the form of Tata Aquila. The flat bottom steering wheel looks smart and proves to be practical in front of the rival cars.

Tata is also expected to use certain segment-first features, one of which was already seen with the inclusion of huge TFT in the console for ease of navigation, music and car management. Tata 45X is expected to use the same 1.2L petrol and 1.5L diesel engine as the Nexon, producing class-leading power values and saving a lot in terms of weight from the compact SUV. Both the engines are turbocharged and thus, the driving feel is not compromised at all. The upcoming premium hatchback is also expected to feature the same sort of safety rating as Tata Nexon.

Tata Harrier will be launched in India on January 23. The car can be booked for a token amount of INR 30,000. The indicative price for the upcoming premium SUV is also as premium as it can get for a Tata car of this segment. An automotive report hints the on-road price for base variant of Harrier at INR 16 lakh while top variant will fall around INR 21 lakh. When not including any insurance or registration charge, the car will start under INR 14 lakh. The top model will fall in the INR 18 lakh bracket, leaving the most-selling car of this segment far behind in terms of overall pricing. Harrier will rival Jeep Compass and Hyundai Creta in India.

The placement of Creta will offer Hyundai a clear benefit over all other cars, whether it be Harrier and Compass or it is Duster and S-Cross. The first two will limit buyers for themselves with such huge pricing while others are not worth consideration in comparison to the variants offered by Creta. Tata Harrier was earlier expected to be a game changer with similar pricing as Creta and a much bigger engine for attracting more buyers to their side. Now, it seems like Tata is targeting Jeep with their pricing and taking them down with a powerful stance. The public previews further back the claims by showing the muscular profile of the new Harrier.

Harrier uses a powerful 2.0L, 4-cylinder engine producing 140 HP of maximum power and 300 NM of maximum torque in the present stage of tune. The engine is sourced from Fiat, leaving Creta behind by clear 14HP and almost 40 Nm of torque. The seven-seat variant of Harrier, planned for a later debut, will use the 170HP tune of this engine. The car is using a Land Rover inspired frame and thus, the overall cost of production is definitely high on their side. The SUV is listed on the official website in 4 variants: XE, XM, XT, and XZ, offering just a 6-speed manual gearbox initially. The launch of Harrier will mark Tata’s entry into an all-new premium segment.

Tata Harrier SUV will launch in India on January 23, 2019. The hype for this premium midsize SUV went up once the brand revealed the official images on the website. The car went on display for customers who had already booked the vehicle and even before that, became official through the reviews. The promising product may be heavy on the pocket as the pricing is expected to fall in INR 16-20 lakh bracket (on-road). The front of the car looks very aggressive, all thanks to the LED daytime running lights on the XT and XZ variant. The lower variants are under-equipped for a car of this size.

The safety section is fully-loaded on the top model as Harrier SUV offer hill hold control, hill descent control, corner stability control, 6-airbags, brake assist, roll-over mitigation, and ISOFIX child seats. The 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine on the Harrier is good for 140 HP of maximum power. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox. The car offers exclusive 2741mm of wheelbase.

Tata Harrier is bringing tough competition to many premium-positioned car brands of India. The arrival of this tough SUV will mean indirect competition to some of the best selling products of the SUV segment. Tata Motors is moving ahead on the right track by raising potential with every new car, with Harrier being their new flagship for the year 2019. Here are ten must-know facts about the Tata Harrier.

Tata Harrier SUV
Tata Harrier SUV: The Next Big Thing!

10 Must-Know Facts About Tata Harrier

1) Single Engine Option

Tata Harrier is available with a single 2.0L, four-cylinder diesel engine. Sourced from Jeep Compass, the power output under the Tata Moniker is 140 HP. Tata is working on a 7-seat variant of Harrier, with the same engine producing 170 HP under that guise. As of now, the launch of a petrol engine for the Harrier is not on the cards.

2) No Automatic Gearbox

The first report hinted at a 9-speed automatic gearbox for the Harrier while later, the brand went forward with a 6-speed automatic unit from Hyundai. Unfortunately, none of them will be launched in the first phase as Harrier comes with a 6-speed manual unit.

3) Fully-Loaded SUV

The top-spec Harrier is available with features like hill hold control, hill descent control, 8.8-inch infotainment system with mirroring function for the 7-inch console screen, terrain response modes, leather on the dashboard and seats, HID projector headlights and 6-airbags. The driving modes can help the Harrier stay focused normal, wet and rough road conditions. The top-end model of Harrier is equipped with a JBL music system with 4 speakers, 4 Tweeters, a woofer and an amplifier.

4) Key Rivals in India

Harrier rivals Jeep Compass, Hyundai Creta and Mahindra XUV500 in its segment. The car is longer and wider than all three, resulting in class-leading leg space for the front and rear seat passengers. The most powerful among these four is the Jeep Compass.

5) Land Rover-Derived Chassis

Harrier underpins the current generation chassis from Tata that is derived from the Land Rover D8 platform. The structure is safer than all other Tata cars, bringing more rigidity and control to the structure and enhanced comfort for the passengers.

6) Colour Options

Tata Harrier can be bought in Ariel Silver, Calisto Copper, Telesto Grey, Thermisto Gold and Orcus White shade. The option of getting a contrast shade roof is not yet available for the car. The bonnet and front section is more prominent than the window size.

7) No Sunroof

Tata has missed the sunroof option from Harrier at the present stage. The same is available in all three rivals and thus, buyers may think twice before making a decision. Loads of space in the Harrier may not let anyone feel trapped inside but sunroof adds a lot more light into the car through its effective placement.

8) Massive Boot Space

Harrier is available with five seats as standard, offering 425 litres worth boot space without folding any seat. The rear seats can be folded to achieve 810 litres of boot space in the new car. The car even comes with a 50-litre fuel tank.

9) No 4×4 Option

The missing 4×4 option from Harrier limits the use of Land Rover derived platform. It seems like Tata Motors will first gauge the customer response before bringing higher priced variants for the car. The price will rise by approx INR 1 lakh for the 4×4 version.

10) Expected Price

The base version of Tata Harrier lacks many important features, making it good for an expected starting price of INR 12 lakh. The top variant is expected to get a price tag of INR 15.50 lakh. The addition of 4×4 and sunroof, along with the automatic gearbox, can take the price higher by INR 2.50 lakh in the mid of 2019.

Tata Harrier will be available for public previews from December 18. The time slots will be divided among those who have pre-booked the car.

Tata Harrier automatic is expected to launch in India around mid-2019. The 6-speed gearbox will be sourced from Hyundai and may save Tata Motors a lot of money over the unit that was planned to be shared with the Jeep Compass.

The launch of Harrier automatic will be another big step for the brand as their present generation car is offering segment-first features with a 6-speed manual gearbox. The missing sunroof may still be a problem with certain segment of buyers.

Tata Harrier was expected to arrive with 4×4, automatic gearbox and sunroof on the top-spec model initially. The launch price of INR 15-20 lakh (on-road), that too with just a manual gearbox hint that the top-spec Harrier automatic with 4×4 may cost around INR 22 lakh.

The price is still lower than Jeep Compass but may not be as attractive for Tata buyers. The expected starting price, considering the missing number of features, may fall around INR 12 lakh (ex-showroom).

Tata Nexon SUV has secured the first-ever 5 star safety rating in Global NCAP crash test results. The updated version of the car stays true on two factors – manufactured in India and sold in India. The score was earlier restricted to 4 stars due to lack of only one adult protection feature. Tata has included seat belt reminder for both the driver and passenger on the new version. The new Nexon SUV scored 16.06 out of the total 17 points for adult protection, much higher in comparison to the 13.56 points for the older version.

The cars produced from December 7, 2018 will feature the additional safety feature. The current version provided adequate safety for the head and neck area of the front passengers but addition of a safety reminder fulfilled all the conditions demanded by Global NCAP. The shell is rated stable when hitting a barrier 64 kph, even passing the side impact test with good points. The marginal moniker for the car has changed to good with the single change. The platform that Nexon uses is really impressive.

Apart from the child seat anchorages, all variants of the Nexon are available with dual airbags and ABS as standard. The adult protection remains impressive on all options. The range of Nexon starts from INR 6.23 lakh for the base petrol version, going all the way up to INR 10.66 lakh for the diesel AMT version.

Commenting on the Nexon’s stellar showing, David Ward, Secretary General at Global NCAP, said, “This is a huge landmark for car safety in India. Congratulations to Tata Motors for achieving India’s first five-star rating for adult occupant protection. The Nexon was engineered in India and this shows the huge capability of the domestic industry to achieve excellence in safety design and performance. With the Nexon, Tata has shown the global car industry that to achieve five stars you can ‘Make in India’.”
