Tata Motors has officially launched the Harrier Dark Edition in the Indian market with an ex-showroom price tag of INR 16.76 lakh, which is also the present price tag of the dual-tone XZ variant of the SUV. Launching a new colour variant for their most-cherished SUV is one of the simple and effective measures to keep it ahead in the competition.

Ever since the launch of the MG Hector and Kia Seltos in India, the midsize SUV market is taking a turn for good. To keep the Tata Harrier in the news, the all-black version of the SUV is all set to rule the Indian roads. The all-black colour scheme is an addition to the rest of the shades available for the Tata Harrier.

The Harrier Dark Edition was initially showcased at Tata Motors’ Annual General Meeting (AGM). The new variant features a glossy-black paint scheme in addition to blackened-out body panels. The 17-inch alloy wheels have been given an all-black treatment in addition to the front skid plate though the brand has kept the chrome detailing intact on the window lines.

Coming to the interior, the brand has opted for the same all-black look for it. The brown upholstery seen on the standard version of Tata Harrier has been now replaced by black leather upholstery while the faux-wood inserts on the dashboard have been replaced by a textured matte-grey panel.

Apart from the cosmetic changes, there hasn’t been any alterations made to the Tata Harrier. It continues to run on the 2.0-litre Kryotec four-cylinder diesel engine capable of churning out a maximum power of 140 HP and a peak torque of 350 Nm.

The engine is mated to 6-speed manual transmission. The brand is likely to introduce the BS6-compliant version of the SUV in the coming months while the anticipation for its 7-seater version named Buzzard/Cassini is still running high.

The first camouflaged image of the 2020 Tata Nexon compact SUV has recently surfaced online. The company unveiled this product back in September 2017 and it has been successful in grabbing everyone’s attention. The car became increasingly popular and soon became the second best-selling compact SUV and in the run, it turned down other cars like the Ford EcoSport and the Honda WR-V.

But with the recent launch of cars like Mahindra XUV300 and Hyundai Venue, the Nexon has started losing its fan following in the Indian market. Owing to the falling fame, the SUV recently got some feature additions that did not do any benefit to it in terms of the sales number.

Due to the car’s unfortunate phase, the company has decided to give a major design facelift to the Tata Nexon. The 2020 model of the SUV will be offered with a number of noticeable changes on the interior and exterior. The recent spy image gives a clear indication of what can be expected out of the product.

2020 Tata Nexon
2020 Tata Nexon Compact SUV Spotted for the First Time

The design of the 2020 Tata Nexon has been inspired by the ‘Impact Design 2.0’ philosophy that was first seen on the Harrier. As a result, the front fascia of the new Nexon has got a sharper design profile. The grille section that contains the Tata logo is equally appealing whereas the projector headlamps will also be on offer.

Tata also has integrated LED Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) that adds to the sporty touch of the 2020 Nexon. The front grille vents have been improved and they will be offered in a number of different colour options.

The 2020 Tata Nexon is expected to be equipped with features like a sunroof and sensors for rain wipers. The interiors of the car are expected to feature an improved steering wheel, an enlarged infotainment screen and the interior will also comprise of premium soft-touch materials teamed with metallic accents.

The next-gen model of Nexon will be available with 2 engine options: 1.2-litre Revotron turbo petrol and 1.5-litre Revotorq diesel. Both the engines will be BS6-compliant and are expected to be more refined in comparison to the current set of engines on offer. The 2020 model of the compact SUV will get the same 6-speed manual and 6-speed AMT gearbox options.

The Indian electric utility company Tata Power has decided to work in collaboration with the automotive manufacturing company Tata Motors in order to set up 300 EV fast-charging stations in the country. The fast-charging stations will be installed in five cities which are Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, Bengaluru and Hyderabad by the end of the fiscal year. The company has already started the initiative by inaugurating a total of seven charging stations in Pune on August 2nd, 2019 to enable the e-mobility drive.

In the coming two months, the collab plans to install 45 new charging stations that will be opened across the other four cities. These chargers will be installed at the Tata Motors dealerships, at the Tata Motors retail outlets in addition to other public locations.

The Managing Director and CEO of Tata Power said in an interview – “Our aim is to make EV charging as fast and easy as possible for all the Indians and we are very pleased to partner with Tata Motors, with whom we jointly identified high priority locations which could be preferred by the potential electric vehicle owners”.

The Managing Director and CEO of Tata Motors in a recent interview said that – “We remain committed to the sustainable mobility mission and will continue to work towards bringing aspirational e-mobility solutions for the customers, leading the drive towards faster adoption of electric vehicles in the country,” adding to which he said that the collaboration is a huge milestone in the company’s venture to initiate environment solutions and to offer peace of mind to their loyal customers.

According to the latest details available, Tata Motors has decided to retain their 1.5-litre and above diesel engines even after the BSVI emission norms comes into effect from April 1 next year, though, the brand is yet to confirm the future of its 1.2-litre diesel engines. Disregarding the several rumours of axing the Tata Hexa due to the implementation of BS6, the brand has confirmed that the MPV will be getting a BS6 update in the coming months.

Since Maruti Suzuki has decided to axe the production of its diesel cars from next year, Tata Motors has decided to take a complicated road. The brand believes that the cost of paying INR 1.00-1.50 lakh extra for the big diesel engine cars can be easily accommodated with increased efficiency and overall low maintenance cost as compared to the petrol engines. The brand is still evaluating whether the smaller diesel engines will be beneficial for the customers after the implementation of BSVI norms or not.

Commenting on the continuation of big diesel engines, SN Barman, Vice-President, Sales, Marketing and Customer Support, Tata Motors, states: “My strong belief is that for the bigger diesel cars (1.5-litre engine and above), there is no alternative. If you look at the fuel efficiency per se (for engines above 1.5 litres), it is substantially lower for petrol engines than diesel engines. The running cost of the petrol engine in the bigger cars is always going to be higher than the diesel engine. It makes more sense to have diesel engines during the BS-VI regime as well because one can always recover the additional cost of ₹1-1.5 lakh.”

To recall your memory, the Tata Hexa is powered by a 2.2-litre diesel engine that offers a max power of 150HP and a peak torque of 320 Nm for its base variant. The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The high spec trims of Tata Hexa further offers a maximum power of 156HP and 400 Nm of peak torque. The brand offers an optional 6-speed manual gearbox and an automatic gearbox for the top-level trims.

Without FAME II subsidies

  • Old Price: INR 12.35-12.71 lakh
  • New Price: INR 11.58-11.92 lakh

With FAME II subsidies

  • Old Price: INR 10.99-11.09 lakh
  • New Price: INR 9.96-10.30 lakh

Apart from the price cuts, the Tata Tigor EV remains all the same. Being currently available as a commercial vehicle only, the brand is also planning on launching the updated Tigor EV at the Auto Expo 2020, which will be made available to a larger chunk of audience.

The XM and XT variants of the Tata Tigor EV can be further differentiated on the basis of the level of kit offered on both the models. The XT variant of the electric sedan has been equipped with 14-inch alloy wheels as well as power-adjustable wing mirrors while these features have been given a miss on the XM variant.

The brand has equipped both the XT and XM variants of the Tata Tigor EV with a standard safety kit that includes ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, dual front airbags, seat belt reminders and more. The base variant XE, however, lacks these features.

Powering the Tata Tigor EV is the 16.2kWh battery, and the brand has mated the battery pack with a 72V, 3-phase AC induction motor, capable of generating maximum power of 41HP (30kW) at 4,500 rpm and 105 Nm of peak torque at 2,500 rpm. The company-claimed range of the Tigor EV stands at 142km on a single charge of the battery. The battery can charge up to 80% in just 6 hours via a standard AC socket.
