Hyundai Unveils Heritage Series EV Resto-Mod Sedan to Honour 1986 Grandeur

To commemorate the 35th anniversary of the original 1986 Grandeur flagship car, Hyundai Motor Company has developed a resto-mod with a retro-futuristic appeal that is also electrified. This retro-style model is eco friendly, a fusion of retro and the latest EV technology. The Newtro (newness+retro) concept theme is unique in that it considers the need to refresh old gold memories. Hyundai redesigned and restyled the first-generation Grandeur into an all-electric vehicle with Parametric Pixel exterior lighting that distinguishes it as a brand new IONIQ 5 production model and an ultra-modern interior.

This beauty houses red-coloured velvet and burgundy leather seats that provide an ultra-vintage interior. The bronze-coloured lighting and the modern audiophile sound system give it a futuristic touch from the inside. The designers absolutely integrated the latest technologies, fused with the retro-style hardware. They replaced the dashboard’s gauges and buttons with an ultra-wide, touch-enabled flat-screen display, but kept the ’80s flavour with a single spoke steering wheel and a jet-style mechanical gear selector.

Talking about the sound system with 18 speakers, it is controlled by the 4way4 sound system developed by South Korean sound designer Guk-il Yu. Thanks to the composition of Grandeur’s centre console and dashboard, which are based on concert hall acoustic theory, the audio system delivers great sound clarity with deep bass. There is also a soundbar with a piano function that can be played when the vehicle is parked.

From the outside, the Heritage Series Grandeur shows most of its retro glamour, but with fastidious upgrades such as new side mirrors, covered wheels, slide cladding, and the pixel-style LED headlamps, the sequential LED turn signal, and a pixelated theme going on for the grille and tail lights as well. This breathtaking boxy car look is based on the Hyundai Pony and has been brought back with the latest EV technology.
